Tax fizzy drinks and ban junk food ads, say doctors http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-21478314
I understand where they are coming from, but it seems like all they are doing is putting out ideas that may or may not have some kind of effect on people. It would be more helpful if they could back their ideas up with some research about the efficacy that banning these ads would have on people's behavior. It's even mentioned in the article that this campaign is similar to campaigns against cigarette ads, yet I don't believe the removal of cigarette ads from television has had any significant impact on smoking habits. I will admit I could be wrong here, however. People are going to do what they want, regardless of whether or not they are told to do it by some ad on TV. Until there is solid research that proves otherwise, this move would be entirely useless.
I'm glad that I don't have to deal with this shit where I live
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
Damn right
I kind of agree. But isn't one of the problems how the things tastes versus each other? [sp]And then there's addiction[/sp]
No junk food or vending machines in hospitals, where all food must meet the same nutritional standards as in schools
I disagree with the vending machines in hospitals bit. In children's hospitals yes, but in a general hospital it seems silly
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
not if it burdens my taxes
This is going to annoy more people than it will actually help. Plus fat people aren't exactly short of money.
eh, no obesity, high cholesterol, and general out-of-shapeness can be treated and resolved cancer, not so much
This is going to annoy more people than it will actually help. Plus fat people aren't exactly short of money.
if this is true, how come obesity is rising among the poor? healthy food tends to be more expensive than junk food.
What about the rich who don't give a shit about the price? Why the fuck is extra taxation always the go-to solution? Removing personal choice under the guise of public safety is abhorrent. People are only sheeple if you treat them that way by manipulating taxation levels and such and pretending they only work on binary system and are unable to understand the true reasoning for not consuming these products. Educate people properly instead of trying to skew and coerce them into adopting certain behavior or consumption through retarded attempts at social engineering like this. If they want to reduce consumption why don't they impose one of those blanket bans they're so fond of and be honest about their authoritarian "fuck the poor" prick waving? It worked so well for drugs, right? Fuck government paternalism.
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
You will do what you are told, or else.
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
Yes you can, you can also pay towards the potential medical bills while you're at it as well.
if this is true, how come obesity is rising among the poor? healthy food tends to be more expensive than junk food.
No it isn't. You're just buying healthy food from the wrong places if you think it's more expensive than junk food.
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
This is more aimed at children, the article says 1/3 of primay school leavers are obese, if you give an 11 year old the freedom to eat whatever they want and build a McDonalds next to the school, do you think he'll eat healthy?
No it isn't. You're just buying healthy food from the wrong places if you think it's more expensive than junk food.
I buy raw vegetables and meats and do the cooking myself.. its typically about the same as a big mac meal when it comes down to cost. I don't understand the expense of it, plus it tastes better. Then again, not everybody has the time and will to cook.
No it isn't. You're just buying healthy food from the wrong places if you think it's more expensive than junk food.
People don't have time to buy all the ingredients seperatly and to make a meal, especially when it's just 88p to buy it ready made: http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=274579189
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
This doesn't stop you from eating junk food, it just makes it a little more expensive and helps pay for the treatment you may need when you are suffering from a heart condition or diabetes.
This doesn't stop you from eating junk food, it just makes it a little more expensive and helps pay for the treatment you may need when you are suffering from a heart condition or diabetes.
muh freedoms
Things that are horrendous for your health shouldn't be advertised, imo. Sure, you can choose not to buy/eat what's on the TV, but there's countless studies that have shown how children can be so easily manipulated in early childhood, and as a result end up gauging themselves on a regular basis on fast food. At least, it'd be great if these advertisements weren't on until "adult time"
The general consensus on facepunch is that everyone should have freedom of choice, unless some angsty teenagers think they know better than you. Then you don't deserve to make that choice
Oh fuck off. Taxing soda isn't going to do anything useful and will just annoy people. Sodas are utterly harmless, only an issue if you drink way too fucking many of them, which can be said about literally everything on store shelves. The government shouldn't be raising everyone's kids.
Yes let's tax what is most affordable to the poor so that they just have to starve to death. At least they wouldn't be fat eyesores.
Yes let's tax what is most affordable to the poor so that they just have to starve to death. At least they wouldn't be fat eyesores.
Drinking tesco price coke stops people from starving to death?
Kids, theyre banning the ads. Thats a good thing, because who the fuck likes ads?
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
Nope, you don't get to dope up on speed and then rip around my town naked trying to pull bus stop signs out of the ground.
You know, people and their unhealthy lifestyles cost a shit ton to our society, so it's no wonder the doctors would like less emphasis on crap food advertising/marketing or w/e.
How about you fuck off. I can put in my body whatever the hell I want.
yeah we should leave people to fuck their bodies up and not try to help them because you don't want to see ads on your coke bottle
The general consensus on facepunch is that everyone should have freedom of choice, unless some angsty teenagers think they know better than you. Then you don't deserve to make that choice
How is raising taxes on it stopping you from choosing?
Kids, theyre banning the ads. Thats a good thing, because who the fuck likes ads?
They've already banned junk food ads during kids shows to stop childhood obesity in Australia, they can show junk food ads at around prime time though but mcdonalds have put these healthy options in like fruit bags and juice, though nobody goes for it lol
