A mass grave containing the remains of babies and children has been discovered at a former Catholic care home in Ireland where it has been alleged up to 800 died, government-appointed investigators said on Friday. Excavations at the site of the former Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in Tuam, County Galway, have uncovered an underground structure divided into 20 chambers containing “significant quantities of human remains”, the judge-led mother and baby homes commission said. I probably should have posted this earlier (and I'm actually surprised you're posting news about Ireland). ... except I didn't realise until now that 800 died. Jesus Christ. This was known to us for a bit but now it's even worse. And in my county too. ... I'm not sure how to react to this other than complete despair, and a hope that the Catholic Church will lose even more power from this. God save you if you were born out of wedlock in the 60s or anytime prior
My ex was Irish, so I now take an inordinate interest in Irish affairs out of old habits. :v: That having been said, this is absolutely horrifying.
That makes sense. And yes, it is horrifying. But that was the sad reality of Ireland during the 30s up to the 60s. A lot of shameful things happened like the Magdalene Laundries occurred and the Catholic Church had awful power in the country, abusing and using people. That power has thankfully been broken in most cases, but there are still battles to be fought. And this has hardened my resolve.
Well in the words of Stephen Fry: '-then what are you for?' If you cant even be what you claim your purpose is- That is a source of superior morals and a heightened level of humanity, What the hell is the point of your religion? The awful thing to consider too, is that this is a case that's been buried for half a century, so who knows what other stunning cases of inhumanity from these self-appointed guardians of morality we have yet to find out about, and how many cases we will never find out about. Does it come across in my words that i have a great personal distaste for religion? :v:
