Going to space is a dream job for many, but a Russian cosmonaut has abandoned his next space mission and resigned from the space corps, trading his galactic travels for a “more exciting job” down on Earth.
Yury Lonchakov was scheduled to go to space in the 2015 International Space Station (ISS) mission on the Soyuz TMA-16M ship, alongside NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren, Japanese Exploration Aerospace Agency (JAXA) astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Russian Federal Space Agency cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko.
“He came up to me and said that he found a more exciting job than working in outer space. And wrote his resignation letter,” chief of the Cosmonaut Training Center, Sergey Krikalev, told Interfax news agency on Thursday.
“Frankly, we counted on his participation because he was not just in the unit, he was assigned to the crew," said Krikalev, adding that he does not understand the decision.
Lonchakov’s retirement sent the Russian blogosphere into a frenzy, with many questioning which profession could possibly be more interesting than being an cosmonaut.
What is this job he speaks of?
Its probably not that he found something generally more exciting than going to space, and more like he's just done it enough that hes used to it
That or he's one of those people that get off on life-risking scenarios, and launching into space stagnated/got too safe.
I dunno.
Now Putin can take his place. The President that visited the moon :v: I bet that'll go well with everything else he's "done ".
I hear hazmat diving is pretty exciting these days.

Maybe after the initial thrill getting stuck up there for awhile probably isn't as exciting.
I imagine even just above the Earth you'd feel a little isolated.

Lots of people have this attitude, but honestly I think that the majority of them would regret it if they actually went on such a trip.

Maybe SpaceX contacted him. Why do something someone has done before, when you can do something new.

I was just thinking that, more specifically how Jacob tried to get Sam into the space program not knowing she was already going to other planets :v:
