Scientists have released what's believed to be the first-ever deep-sea footage of living oarfish. The serpent-like denizens, which reside at great depths, are presumed responsible for spawning myths of sea monsters among ancient mariners.
The footage in the accompanying clip was captured in 2011, via remotely-operated vehicle in the northern Gulf of Mexico. It was released this week, along with four other videos and the publication of a scientific paper.
The video makes it look small.

OH GOD WHAT!
Now I understand why ancient mariners thought these were sea monsters.
The ocean is truly amazing, it is strange that we have been so close to it for so long but still have so much to discover down there.

Amazifying.
Jesus; that's a real big fish. I wonder what it tastes like?
Oh, and it's also pretty cool.
That's really cool. Didn't they find an alive one floating in the Gulf of Mexico?

They all seem so eager to touch the long slimy body, together, don't they?
It's kind of cute in a really gross horrible way
Fire up those grills
watching its fin is so hypnotising
Looks like something that native people would've called a "god" once upon a time.
Here's another video of another oar fish.

How appetizing.
Sea Monsters are real, they're just freaky as real things. Sea Monsters aren't myths!
Although.. I'm curious how ancient mariners ever found out about these things that live in the deep-sea. Its not like these things really ever came up to the surface.
There needs to be more national geographic expeditions of the deep sea, there's a lot of shit we may not even know exists down there.

Dead things wash up and fuel the imagination.

We've also been deep sea fishing for centuries so it's likely they caught a few things that spooked the hell out of them.
He must be lonely all by himself down there.

We need horror games that involve deep sea exploration.

It's a gyarados. He fucking told us but we wouldn't listen, now all is doomed.

It's the shit like this that we rarely see that scares every one.
