I was thinking earlier about how’s it a full-length game without actual characters, just voices and architecture. And that’s far more character than most any other game of the last few years.
This is 1) true and 2) a sad thing to say for the rest of the industry.
This is 1) true and 2) a sad thing to say for the rest of the industry.
They just have quirky and random dialogue. It wouldn't make sense for most other games to say the same types of things that was said in this game.

The point they're making is that the characters in Portal 2 are voices with blinking lights and shutters, yet many games with extremely dynamic facial expressions in realistic characters can't tell a decent, compelling story nor express nearly as much emotion; they aren't characters so much as they are plot devices.
I'd prefer listening this kind of stuff.
I think they brought up my main complain with portal 2-- no more extremely challenging levels. I really miss the difficulty rampup in portal 1. Plotwise, however, and visually, I have to say that portal 2 is fucking incredible. I really enjoyed playing through the game. A lot. But that's pretty much the whole game; pretty much every puzzle was solved for you by having only very specific surfaces portalable. Here's hoping we'll have some challenge chambers soon.
Some nice spoilerific screenshots you got in that article, RPS. Also, wow they really didnt' like it much "I prefer episode 2"? Really?!
Did you really expect an article giving the writers opinion on a game WITHOUT spoilers?

Really?!
How does them liking it less than Episode 2 mean they didn't like it much? Episode 2 was better than Portal 2, doesn't mean I don't like it, Episode 2 was great, hard to top.

They kept introducing new concept after new concept and I kept getting more excited for that final puzzle or two that tied all of them together into one monster, but it never really happened. Actually, I had a lot less trouble with some of the last puzzles than I did with the in-between level segments that involved looking for that little dot of Portal-able wall.
And their only solution to the whole "the facility is approximately 5% portal surfaces" was the white gel, and white gel only really appeared for one puzzle. And it was a shitty puzzle that basically resulted in spraying the entire room with the stuff.
Did you really expect an article giving the writers opinion on a game WITHOUT spoilers?
Yeah I don't really get the complaints about spoilers. If you care so much about not knowing the plot before playing it, why would you postpone playing it so much? It's not that expensive. The latter half of the game uses Conversion Gel quite generously.
did everyone else get that fake escape from GlaDOS near the start? Where you see the door with trees outside then she gasses you?
what the hell?
Oh. You'll be happy to know you remember that wrongly. The latter half of the game uses Conversion Gel quite generously.
Only as a pipe that has to be broken to release a set amount of conversion gel in a set area, which is entirely pointless.
what the hell?
[sp]after wheatley opens that way for you to escape, along the way glados opens up a test chamber and tells you to go in there. if you do, that happens.[/sp]
[sp]I genuinely fell for it, I thought she was going to let me go :( [/sp]
[sp]I did it just to see what she would do, and laughed when I got the achievement[/sp]
Game developers these days should care more for Atmosphere and Fun than Realism and Storyline, Valve achieved that in Portal 2 and I'm happy
the storyline was great, it was simplistic but incredibly well executed don't you dare say that storyline doesn't matter in a game
[sp]I did it just to see what she would do, and laughed when I got the achievement[/sp]
I did the same thing what the hell
