Late? o.O
What real purpose could this possibly serve other than desensitizing the soldiers to shooting what looks like hurt civilians? - with normal screaming in the background to boot.

The concept of a 'zombie' has been turned into more or less a joke, but in reality learning how to control a situation where something causes pockets of civilians, small or large, to basically become murderous and out of control, can be very useful.
I mean a 'zombie' doesn't have to necessarily be undead and flesh-eating, and while its far-fetched, its not impossible to see a chemical or a virus cause a person to start hallucinating and go nuts.
Regardless, I highly doubt this is real to begin with.

There is already a special type of unit that is supposed to deal with those kinds of situations: riot control.
Unarmed citizens can only become so insanely murderous, and even then there are proper contingencies for that that do not involve live rounds. Like ffs this isn't egypt.

You make a good point but I wasn't implying that such a unit doesn't exist, only that such training could potentially be useful.
I agree with you though, and honestly the make-up and zombie masks were just outright ridiculous.
This is obviously not serious. You guys realize this?
There is a crowd standing back and watching and you can hear an announcer. This is probably some little event or fundraiser on par with like those Undead Walks they have in Boston and stuff.
Those are obviously not real soldiers or anything like that. It looks like a staged little zombie apocalypse play. It looks like they got the local PD to sponsor them and haul out the Bearcat and all the other neat stuff they have but this isn't supposed to be a training simulation or anything like that.
These are obviously not real US soldiers/marines due to they aren't wearing any actual army or marine gear other than a few FROG/Combat shirts.
what a fucked up idea for a fundraiser

nothing like going out on a sunny day to watch an event that feels like a genocidal massacre if you squint

It's all in good fun I guess. If it was really a fundraiser they make money by giving everyone some entertainment.
Honestly a lot of the shit we do is fucked up when you look at it objectively.
Why would anyone pay to watch people get brutally tortured for two hours? But guess what millions of people paid $12 for tickets to watch the SAW movies and they were so wildly popular that they kept making sequels each more intense than the last.
This is tame compared to stuff like that and considering how popular The Walking Dead and stuff is right now this is a good way to attract people. How many times can you have a BBQ or a Tricky Tray before it gets boring?
i'll stick with the barbeque thanks
I feel the title just fell apart into keyword tags.
So now we have military training exercises designed to dehumanize zombies? This is fucking disgusting, not all zombies are aggressive murderers.

Could be a bit of both. The US military has training exactly like this, where they have a simulated village and role players and 'scripted events' for the unknowing unit, like an unexpected IED, wounded casualties, the whole works. Don't see why it couldn't be adapted and changed for fundraising events, looks like fun
I remember last semester there was a kid that was trying to convince our class that a zombie apocalypse was going to happen and this is one of the videos he showed me.
there was a zombie walk in san fran years ago which happen to be on the same day they did a simulated scenario of dirty bomb going off.
