Richard Dawkins is a badass mofo
I love how he has a permanent troll face.
The five devout nondenominational Christians in all of Facepunch are thinking both sides are corrupt as they watch this video.
The five devout nondenominational Christians in all of Facepunch are thinking both sides are corrupt as they watch this video.
Ya, but as non-denominational Christians we choose not to care.
The five devout nondenominational Christians in all of Facepunch are thinking both sides are corrupt as they watch this video.
how could atheism be corrupt atheism isn't an organization
Richard is one of my true idols.
i don't mean to kill the mood, but isn't he basically doing the exact same thing the pope did?
i don't mean to kill the mood, but isn't he basically doing the exact same thing the pope did?
How? He's basing what he's saying off fact and in one example he's showing the fallacies of how the church has acted in the past compared to some of their excuses today. That was one hell of a speech. I hope the pope was forced to watch that as well. Maybe he'll realize how stupid he's being.... Nah, who are we kidding?
Its so stupid of the pope to say that condoms doesn't prevent aids.
i don't mean to kill the mood, but isn't he basically doing the exact same thing the pope did?
No, he's doing a two point rebuttal. The pope's argument was that Atheism caused Hitler and Stalin to commit atrocities. Dawkins first remarked that Hitler was not an Atheist, and there are even arguments to suggest that he was Catholic. And then, Dawkins pointed out that even if they were Atheist, they didn't commit these atrocities out of their non-belief in a god, and therefore the argument that Atheists committed atrocites is as valid as the argument that moustache-wearers commited atrocities. There is no causality between Atheism and war-crimes.
Facepunch: Forcing its belief on the unserbase since 1974.
I must say that Dawkins is a great speaker. Equally captivating in speeches like this as he is in interviews, documentaries and his books. Just another example why.
Facepunch: Forcing its belief on the unserbase since 1974.
There's a marked difference between forcing your belief on others and showing them what you believe and why you believe it.
IMO people loose all their credibility for me when they start arguing using the Nazis. Defending yourself against those arguments is fine, but i do think he went a bit far there. Never the less, for the rest it's an amazing speech. Boxes huh.
Facepunch: Forcing its belief on the unserbase since 1974.
Are you saying atheism is a belief? We kinda take our knowledge from scientific fact. [editline]12:38AM[/editline]
IMO people loose all their credibility for me when they start arguing using the Nazis. Is there really a need for this topic to be stickied? It has no bearing on this forum other than it being a video, and it's just going to end up a 20 page long argument which will eventually end up in a bunch of children flaming each other.
holy shit this is stickied
i don't mean to kill the mood, but isn't he basically doing the exact same thing the pope did?
Dawkins isn't the one using lies and propaganda to protect criminals
When I was a child I hated going to the church, I hated everything about it; especially the old people and the priests, as I got older I knew the religion was a total bullshit and shenanigans, 'they read bible to you as a child and force you to do it', my mother asked me when I was little older; why I hate the church, and I said: "the church is filled with pedophiles and old smelly yawning people". My grandmother used to force me to go to the Church, I had to listen to her so I used to go but I was not staying till the end, I was always leaving after half an hour because it was boring. I don't hate on religion as a belief; I hate the religion as an institute, the Church is an institute that does not pay the bills or anything, but they still grab you by the pockets for your money just to fill their pockets so the priests can drive in the newest Mercedes, Also what I hate about the Church? The place people gather every week to compare their clothes. I'm still a catholic but not the practicing one, I don't think about God on a daily basis like most people do, I don't believe in existence of so proclaimed 'God', I always question the religion as it is and somehow want to see it crumble.
Hahaha look at the lady to Dawkins left at 0.24. "... Hitler ..." *Put finger above lip, and does a mini heil*
Facepunch: Forcing its belief on the unserbase since 1974.
No ones forcing you to believe this, we just take it that you're not retarded enough to think the pope is always right.
Its so stupid of the pope to say that condoms doesn't prevent aids.
It's so stupid of you to make such a mistake in that simple sentence.
I'm curious as to why this is stickied.
Facepunch: Forcing its belief on the unserbase since 1974.
It's called atheism, a synonym for 'scientific truth'.
Science isn't a belief or a faith. That's like saying we're forcing you to obey the laws of gravity.
It's called atheism, a synonym for 'scientific truth'.
Being atheist doesn't automatically make you smart. Religion and science are two completely different things and should be treated as such.
They're different things, but they can't both be right
Right about what? Science is for proving things, religion's purpose is for faith, not fact.
Garry, did you sticky the thread? If you did, props to you.
