Sounds quite promising to be honest, apart from looking like minecraft with shader mods.
jesus I read this as OoT
I hope they are making this in mind that people are going to call it a minecraft rip off
Really cool concept art, unoriginal execution. I understand that voxel is easy for independent developers, but it honestly, as described, looks like minecraft with shaders.
First thing that came to mind when seeing the seamless portal was to build a TARDIS.
I'm all for a Minecraft clone that is actually GOOD. Sadly, there has been nothing but shit. So here's to hoping Oort isn't shit.
Just once I'd like a game to use voxels that aren't fucking cubes.
Awesome concepts but good lord that ingame footage looks awful.
And minecraft is infiniminer clone, minecraft did nothing new so i don't know why people rant why this is like minecraft. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] And i like Oort.
looks interesting-ish I'd like to see some new indie games that aren't really focused around survival though, it feels like everything's trying to cram in to this genre.
I wish they would have the water act differently I don't care if it doesn't match the theme ..minecraft already proved that square water is both ugly and a bitch to work with when your not used to it Also look's amazing but hope this isn't another pay per month
I mean, I know it's the 'shut the fuck up its an original idea minecraft doesnt own voxels' thing to say, but... This game REALLY looks like minecraft, like not even just the cubes, the textures, the colours, I can't even describe it to be honest without just saying 'It looks like minecraft' I mean all the stuff that ISNT minecraft-esque was just concept art that they weren't showing any in-game footage of, so what they seem to have done so far is made minecraft with shaders.
The problem with calling voxel-based Sandbox Games "Minecraft-Like": Like, what the fuck? Is minecraft the epitome of voxel-based Sandbox Games? I thought the majority of FP hated Minecraft because of how overrated it is compared to the quality of the actual game itself? That, and the fact that a young audience likes it. Now it seems like FP, no, the Internet hates minecraft mostly because of the general idea of it and the genre (sorta like phil fish's situation) But when a dev group tries to make a better game based off the same principles, it gets "Minecraft-clone". That word should be used for quick cash-grabs of popularity. Like how The WarZ, now Infestation: Survivor Stories, is a cash-grab of DayZ, which is basically the same situation. I don't know about DayZ's development cycle, but it seems similar to Minecraft in terms of content-to-time ratio and hatred among FP. If this game is one of them, well it looks to be a damn good one that might be worth 30 bux. But I don't know if we have enough info to determine if it truely is a good voxel-based Sandbox game. Anyway, the time is way too late to try and cash-grab Minecraft's popularity and be a success. Unfortunately, these guys are charging out the ass for it (90$?). That might just be for the beta though, to discourage people who would feel entitled. But a disclaimer about this rant, is that I'm sure about these guys myself, albeit for other reasons than "Minecraft clone", because, once more, I still don't have much info about these guys. /devilsavocado

Anyway I don't see how you're judging other games as minecraft clones but this one as 'a damn good one that might be worth 30bux' They've literally produced minecraft with some fancy concept art they haven't made yet. Even the gameplay they seem to have up and running right now is mining for ore. Sorry, 'Oort stones'
Oh man. The pricing for this is insane. Typical early access payforpower bullshit. I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole.
I like how it looks, but the tiered shit and empty sounding promises seem awful.
Immediately paused the video and forgot everything I heard when they said the word "pre-purchase" That is my biggest turn-off as far as video games go. Concept of portals looks neat though.
I think this sounds pretty cool actually, instead of having the mishmash of current minecraft server that try to pack in RPG elements, this actually aims for that goal with professional developers dedicated to it.
Wow! And they're telling me I can have all these features which they can totally implement optimized realistically if I just pay them a lot of money? Sounds like a great deal - there is no way I could get burned like every other indie game funded this way before! Ideas sound great but it probably won't happen.
i don't know about you guys but the footage was beautiful
Just watch Deathrune's review of a similar game.
What the fuck is that shit, I don't wanna give that views
it looks cool and i miss having a fun sandbox game around
Jee wiz another cube based survival game, like we don't have 500 already. Also half those promises I've heard a thousand times over again " Build an empire with your friends " = an empty city with absolutely no life.
Sounds ambitious as fuck, call me when they've actually done it.
I really like the art direction this is taking. The characters and creatures feel like they really fit within the universe and don't look like a garble of rectangular prisms *cough* ᵐᶦᶰᵉᶜʳᵃᶠᵗ *cough*
Relying on the community to build cities and empires is just going to lead to gigantic cocks being built everywhere and griefing
Just once I'd like a game to use voxels that aren't fucking cubes.
there are more games than you think that use voxels to (eventually) create smooth, non-cubic geometry. the first crysis game used voxels to extrude and cut terrain geometry horizontally. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline] also, portal 2 (i think) uses voxels (i.e. marching cube algorithm) to help render the geometry of the particles of the various gels you would find in-game
