Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit group behind the children’s television program, has struck a deal with HBO, the premium cable network, that will bring the next five seasons of “Sesame Street” to HBO and its streaming outlets starting this fall.

After nine months of programming exclusively on HBO, the shows also will be available free on PBS, its home for the last 45 years. “Sesame Street” will also continue its run on PBS this fall, with the season featuring a selection of episodes from the last several seasons edited in new ways.
Source. I imagine that most parents with young children will not be thrilled about this news.

Bert and Ernie for True Detective Season 3?
"Sesame Street was brought to you today by the letters H, B, and O."
Makes me glad that Sesame Street here has always been at home on the public broadcasting channel.
well they needed another street themed show to fill the gap of boardwalk empire
All of the jokes above my post are original and hilarious.
Makes me glad that Sesame Street here has always been at home on the public broadcasting channel.
It's been on PBS for like 45 years... it'll still be on PBS, just 9 months after original airing. They're doing this so that Sesame Street can keep making lots of episodes and not fizzle out due to dropped funding. Everybody watches it on-demand rather than on PBS, so funding was running dry for them. I'm all for this, and good on HBO for injecting it with more life. Sesame Street deserves at least another 45 years.
I was starting to wonder what was up with John Oliver and Sesame Street characters. Now it makes sense.
They had to do this because Sesame Street needs a higher budget and better production value.
Yeah, I mean last time you watched it, you could tell the monsters were obviously puppets.
Yeah, I mean last time you watched it, you could tell the monsters were obviously puppets.
Stop spreading lies you asshole.
Yeah, I mean last time you watched it, you could tell the monsters were obviously puppets.
You do realize that's just a completely false rumor right?
So, kind of like when Jim Henson Studio stuff would air exclusively on HBO 30 years ago. Only because they will eventually re-air on PBS does it not sound too bad. Maybe as a call back they could somehow squeeze a new Fraggle Rock segment(Fraggle Rock was one of the Jim Henson programs that was HBO exclusive back in the old days) in to the show. EDITED, removed dialog was a "get rid of Elmo" joke.
I'm sure a premium cable channel with gritty and dark shows and movies has the perfect audience for Sesame Street
Well for that matter why does hulu which has murderporn have cartoon network exclusivity. It's all about building a porfolio of shows I guess
I'm sure a premium cable channel with gritty and dark shows and movies has the perfect audience for Sesame Street
Just for the record, HBO DOES have a family channel. And as such it seems obvious that this will air there.
good god what lol elmo will guest star in game of throwns and guess how many of his finger's got caught off. ..
One finger! Ah two finger! Ah three finger, ah ah ah!
