A candidate from "Wetten Dass...?" fell so hard, the show had to be cancelled.
Student Samuel Koch bettet that he could jump over 5 cars using so called "powerizers" (stilt with springs in them). At the second jump he fell head first on the ground and didn't move. He has then been brought to the hospital where they diagnosed his status as "relatively good for what happened". He is concious and can feel his legs.
After the incident, the show has been stopped for 30 minutes until the moderator said "we can't pretend to be happy when we aren't".
In the rehearsal everything worked out fine.

I saw this one live, it was really shocking.
Also, the show is based around people betting they can do certain things (i.e. recognize 5 hair dryers by their sound), and prominent people visiting the show must say whether they bet they can succeed or not. If they bet wrong, they have to fulfill a special task (i.e. dance in a silly costume on a public street)
It looked like that jump could've been easily avoided by putting his hands out or something
That look likes he has no idea how to flip properly on stilts, his technique was completely wrong (he over rotated and didn't jump high enough before hand, also didn't tuck his legs in), he probably did parkour or something before and thought he could apply the same technique to the stilts.
I do that sport and flipping is hard and it is idiotic to do it over a moving vehicle.

I think the contestants need to proof that they can actually pull off the bets they make before they do it live in the show, so it must have worked out before.
Not sure if its still like this though, I only watched the show a few times.
They have to show it many many times before they are allowed to do it on tv.

Even if that's true, he had a very bad technique.
Here's an example of a decent front flip in slow-mo (not perfect though):

I need to see that in gratuitous slow motion from several angles.
you cant really expect everything to go according to plan even if you did it right just 30 mins ago
still im glad the person is ok :0
Thank Darwin he had a helmet on, else he'd get a cracked skull.
I just saw the video and came here to post it.
He's no Scout, that's for sure.
Seems sort of silly to cancel the entire show because of one incident...
Unless they just mean cancel the airing of the episode.

Airing of that episode you silly.
What the fuck I wanted to see it but there's some sort of blue caption in the way.
why does that blue text box show up at exactly the wrong place at exactly the wrong time

Funfact: this episode was the 100th episode.
You can turn off the annotations, you know.
When he wakes up in a hospital the first thing he'll hear is "You're responsible for making the entire show crew loose their jobs"
Only the episode was canceled. :downs:

incoming dumb-ass question: how?

well actually there are reports coming in with the contestant admitting in an interview before the incident that he already fell pretty badly twice during rehearsals:
BZ: Wie liefen die Proben bisher?
Samuel Koch: Sie helfen auf jeden Fall und geben eine gewisse Sicherheit, ich bin aber doch noch skeptisch. Bei den Proben am Donnerstag bin ich zweimal schwer gestürzt. Der Wettteil klappt noch nicht. Allerdings sind die Voraussetzungen so, dass es in der Sendung funktionieren könnte. Und mein Team ist super.

BZ: How did the rehearsals go so far?
Samuel Koch: They are definitely helpful and give a certain security, yet still I'm sceptical. At the rehearsals on Thursday I fell pretty badly twice. The Bet-Part (translation?) still doesn't work. However the conditions are so, that it could work on the show. And my team is great.
also according to the interview it was the fathers birthday that day, and as we know, right when the father drove the car toward his son during the show, the accident happened...
I can't imagine what the father must be going through right now...
Something on a Russian show occurred that was similar to this, except the dude was standing on a stack of crates and he fell down
uhh what the fuck is the point of that show if you need to jump over a car

Just because he fucked up once, doesn't mean he had a bad technique - he could have just messed up, done the jump wrong and ended up that way.
Don't just assume he can't do it by a fuck up.
you ever think something like this happens on a show like mythbusters?
Probably not.
You seen my eyebrow anywhere, by the way?
Looks like he wetten to das hospital.
Is it just me or the fall doesnt seem actually that bad on video?
Luckly he had a helmet on.

Considering that Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have like 30 odd years experience when doing special effects I doubt they'll fuck up.

He fell from over 2 metres head first on the floor. How can't this be bad?
