• Keurig's Coffee DRM (No Really) Cracked Just Days After Release
When Keuring Green Mountain announced that it would cut out third-party pods for the next-generation of its popular single-serve machines, other coffee outfits were up in arms. One particular company, TreeHouse Foods, claimed that it would take a short time for the code to be cracked (and filed a lawsuit, too). Well, Mother Parker's Tea & Coffee has done just that with its RealCup capsules. The company's coffee and tea pods will work inside the recently released Keurig 2.0 brewers capable of brewing both single cups and carafe-sized batches. Keurig has licensing deals in place with big name coffee outfits like Starbucks, Peet's, Caribou, Krispy Kreme, Twinings of London and others, but it's the other not so well-known suppliers and the private label clientele that are set to suffer under the exclusivity.
http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/28/keurig-drm-cracked/ https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140826/18141528336/keurigs-coffee-drm-already-cracked-competitors-will-there-be-lawsuit.shtml http://www.mother-parkers.com/NewsReleases/RealCup_Announces_K20_Compatibility_22Aug.pdf What kind of fucking retard tries to DRM COFFEE
Why cut out third-party cups in the first place? Seems counter-intuitive.
What kind of fucking retard tries to DRM COFFEE
Keurig Green Mountain
Too late to snip but whatever
I know a normal coffee machine is a better choice, but goddamn if I don't love my K-cup. Glad to see they're still gonna have 3rd party cups.
Why cut out third-party cups in the first place? Seems counter-intuitive.
Because their own coffee pods are more expensive than the 3rd party ones. [editline]28th August 2014[/editline] Also, they're actually trying to sell their own coffee, not the coffee makers. Think of them as printers and how printer manufacturers make more money from the ink.

Think of them as printers and how printer manufacturers make more money from the ink.
This is exactly what I was thinking of. Imagine a world of non-exclusive printer ink. I'm pretty sure a lot less wars would've happened somehow
Yeah... I think I'll stick with my electric kettle and french press, thanks. It's just as easy as using a Keurig, but you can't put DRM on coffee grinds themselves.
Why cut out third-party cups in the first place? Seems counter-intuitive.
So you HAVE to buy from them. It's like how games-workshop keeps jacking up the price of their models so hobby shops have to raise their prices to make a profit so customers will only buy from GW to get the best price
day 1 patch or else totalbiscuit will complain
Keurig has licensing deals in place with big name coffee outfits like Starbucks, Peet's, Caribou, Krispy Kreme, Twinings of London and others,
What Who thought this was a good idea?
Haha if the entire videogame industry can't come up with an uncrackable DRM, there's no way in hell that a coffee company is going to do it.
What
I imagine in the same way Dunkin Donuts has their own coffee.
it's doughnut flavored coffee iirc
I'm not surprised it was cracked considering it was based on a proprietary ink and its interactions with infrared light. No really, they bounce an infrared light off of the lid and if it doesn't "look" right to the machine, it shits itself. That was literally it, a fucking fancy ass barcode.
What Who thought this was a good idea?
Krispy Kreme has some bomb-ass donuts but I don't think I've ever had a good cup of coffee there.
I was gonna come in here and post this but it looks like someone else channeled Alton Brown today.
I always channel Alton Brown. I grew up watching the guy, and he's probably the most influential person to me when it comes to cooking.
I heardd about keurig doing this and didn't worry about it because i knew exactly this would happen. There was so much adversity against keurig that i knew someone somewhere would know how to seize such a good market and open them back up to us using whatever we want in our coffee machines.
so has anyone actually bought this retarded shit? i mean there's always acceptable levels of control for me, but coffee exclusivity in my fucking coffee maker is way beyond that threshold.
Putting DRM in anything should be illegal. Only hurts legitimate costumers.
I dunno this seems pretty homebrewed.
What is this, and why is it becoming a thing? I don't want Austin Powers to become a thing.
