Crazy how he doesn't blink for the entire video
People think it looks good? I thought it looked visually like some prototype with half assed shaders, a collage of experiments just slammed together The desert thing looked awful IMO
People think it looks good? I thought it looked visually like some prototype with half assed shaders, a collage of experiments just slammed together The desert thing looked awful IMO
Why do people always put Nintendos graphical quality under so much scrutnity? For as long as I can remember people always like to bash their games graphics no matter what game it is, it's getting sort of old. The game is supposed to look surreal, every land is supposed to feel like it's own universe/game, really, that's the point of it. I'm not saying your opinion is invalid but people seem to have some sort of weird bias against Nintendo's visuals and it's really tiring.
I'm pretty hype about this game. The only thing that worries me is that the levels look too big. I trust Nintendo to fill them to the brim with fun though.
It's good to see that cookie monster has lost weight since he went sober.

It might not be a vast open world but something split up into chunks.
It's good to see that cookie monster has lost weight since he went sober.
actually he has diabetes now so
I don't know how anyone can even talk shit about Odyssey - Nintendo is literally going even beyond their own comfort zone on this one. It looks like they're taking Mario into a bunch of different artstyles and motifs and it all looks so fucking amazing. It completely boggles me how anyone could say it doesn't look visually appealing. It also bugs me when everyone talks about the city - it's as if they went through 1 minute and said "oh, sonic adventure haha". Odyssey goes beyond satisfying the want for another sandbox Mario. Those new worlds to me look like they're actually trying to push beyond pre-conceived boundaries for Mario.
The desert thing looked awful IMO
Wait what? I live just off of Lake Erie and I've seen enough sand in my life to say that's one hell of a stretch.
People think it looks good? It was an awful mindset then and it's an awful mindset now.
If I want to count the individual hairs on a character I don't buy a Nintendo console. Microsoft and Sony have that market cornered already.
This guy's got it exactly right about Nintendo being totally unpredictable. I mean on the Gamecube they released a Mario platforming game, a Zelda game, and a Mario Kart game. THEN on the Wii they released TWO Mario platforming games, TWO Zelda games and a Mario Kart game. THEN on the Wii U they released a mario game, a Zelda game, and a Mario kart game! Just keeps me guessing what they'll do with the Switch!!
way to miss the point
I just realized 64 was the last Mario game I played. Maybe I should uh, catch up on a few of them.
I just realized 64 was the last Mario game I played. Maybe I should uh, catch up on a few of them.
If you're only big on the 3d games, try Galaxy 1 and 2, and 3D world. If you enjoy RPGs, all of the games up to Bowser's Inside Story are pretty good
What a lot of people have to remember is that Nintendo for the most part focuses on the art direction and the theme of the game first. The graphics generally is an afterthought (things like texture resolution, overall game resolution, and anti-aliasing).
This is one of the few reasons why I like games that are created by Nintendo. It's not due to the gameplay, but it's the art that makes the games timeless. And to pull that off for several years it's more than an achievement.
I think the art style between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess shows their "make the art first" approach best, obviously a lot of people complained about WW's art style cause it was too "cartoony" and "kiddy" so Nintendo looked to bring a more "realstic" looking Zelda game to appease those fans by making Twilight Princess, but you know what, if I had to pick between what game looks better in both graphics and art style, I would pick Wind Waker, even the HD releases they did for WiiU for both games. Some examples: [t]http://i.imgur.com/b0hdGpy.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ACx88Df.jpg[/t] I just love the mix of bright colours in Wind Waker
just because a game isn't a new ip doesn't mean it isn't a fresh idea.
It's still a shame when we could be seeing new characters and worlds but shareholders need that sales guarantee.
It's still a shame when we could be seeing new characters and worlds but shareholders need that sales guarantee.
True, but don't forget it is a new console also, it's better off to stick with Super Mario and friends to sell the system first, even though you just need a new Pokemon game and it's going to skyrocket.
It's still a shame when we could be seeing new characters and worlds but shareholders need that sales guarantee.
fuck it, i'm okay with mario and friends as a blank canvas, as long as they continue to create new enemies and obstacles for those characters to traverse through in unique and interesting ways. i think that's totally acceptable, especially considering that nintendo is actually exploring new IPs like you want, now that the Splatoon team has kinda shot off with ARMS and their possible future projects.

pfff, who needs art direction if you could have hyper realistic mario grafix

It seems kinda like they're just trying to fool the searches so their videos show up in Odyssey searches. On topic: I love the art directions for levels we've seen from Mario Odyssey since it's straying a lot from the formulaic themes they usually go for. Even if they could all be loosely compared to Sonic and other games, it still feels fresh and original.

What is game? Who are gamers? Could we build a bridge, between the mind of the gamer, and the game of the screen? What if we could live inside videogames...
