Because Alestorm is one of the most epic metal groups to ever exist. They play something they call Pirate Metal, which is kind of a fusion of power metal, folk metal and speed metal, with lyrics and themes about pirates. -------- They have (so far) released 2 albums: Captain Morgan's revenge

Over the Seas
Captain Morgan's Revenge
The Huntmaster
Nancy the Tavern Wench
Death Before the Mast
Terror on the High Seas
Set Sail and Conquer
Of Treasure
Wenches and Mead
Flower of Scotland
Their debut album, this album tells the tale of a deadly curse sworn by a dying captain of the law upon a crew of pirates. Alestorm's speed metal influences can clearly be heard on tracks like Death before the Mast, while Wenches & Mead has a lot of power metal in it. An interesting album. --------- Black Sails at Midnight

The Quest
Leviathan
That Famous Ol' Spiced
Keelhauled
To the End of Our Days
Black Sails at Midnight
No Quarter
Pirate Song
Chronicles of Vengeance
Wolves of the Sea
This album doesn't show much evolution from the first albbum, but it still contains some awesome tracks, so it's all good, right? Anyway, if anything, this album has more power- and thrash metal in it. -------- Now, onto the music. shitty gimmick band
shitty gimmick band
You didn't even listen to the music, did you...
I don't think he even read your post
:pirate:!
They're good but threads on them pop up all the time.
These guys are awesome I need to get an album or two. Are those two their only albums?
lyrics and vocals are way too cheesy and stereotypical pirate sounding for me, but the instruments are alright.
lyrics and vocals are way too cheesy and stereotypical pirate sounding for me, but the instruments are alright.
It's power/folk metal matey; those genres by themselves are cheesy. What do you expect to happen when you combine them? Besides, have you seen the video for Keelhauled? He plays a freaking keytar. That makes the band fucking amazing by default.
People need to stop taking music so seriously and just fucking enjoy themselves, fuck.
lyrics and vocals are way too cheesy and stereotypical pirate sounding for me, but the instruments are alright.
I find the lyrics to be way too simple and predictable. When you listen to the songs you can always guess the next line.
These guys are awesome I need to get an album or two. Are those two their only albums?
Besides their two albums, they have released a couple of singles, but the only song they havenä't released on an album is a german translation of wenches & mead. [editline]11:13AM[/editline]
People need to stop taking music so seriously and just fucking enjoy themselves, fuck.
Agreed. I mean, if pirate life is what inspires these people, why not write music about it? :v:
shitty gimmick band
Gotta agree with this, they'd be just another generic power metal band if it weren't for the fact that they're singing about pirates.
But power metal is awesome
But power metal is awesome
Annd so are pirates
But power metal is awesome
There's a lot of generic power metal out there though.
Annd so are pirates
pirates+power metal= double awesome ? [editline]01:35PM[/editline]
There's a lot of generic power metal out there though.
and a lot of incredibly awesome ones. Helloween, Edguy, HammerFall, Sabaton, a lot of 80's heavy metal is power metal-ish. Sonata Arctica are kind of generic but they're still good.

They have a lot of really great ballads that make them stand out.
There's quite a lot that sound similar to them, but yeah I do think their extra instrumentals make them stand out. I only have 'For The Sake of Revenge' so I don't really know too many of their songs :P

The vocals are too quiet, I think. You're missing out, man. You should check out Reckoning Night or their first album, Ecliptica. In my opinion, all their albums are great, but I think those two are their most solid efforts.
They're epic but not in the same way as other bands, I listen to them for lulz.
lyrics and vocals are way too cheesy and stereotypical pirate sounding for me, but the instruments are alright.
The whole point of it is to sound like stereotypical pirates...
The whole point of it is to sound like stereotypical pirates...
yeah no shit i know that, but just because that's the point doesn't mean i have to like it. like what the other guy in this thread said, it's too predictable for me. i don't dislike power metal though, i have some gamma ray and symphony x albums of my own and i enjoy them.

I love this band, saw them live last year. The singer is hysterical.
shitty gimmick band
First album: Good gimmick band Second album: Shitty gimmick band If you're looking for happy folksy metal, they're fine though. Next time you're drinking with friends get some Alestorm, Finntroll, and Korpiklaani.
