http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8512263.stm
One of the founders of the Pirate Bay is kicking off a venture that aims to help websites generate cash. Called Flattr, the micropayments system revolves around members paying a fixed monthly fee. At the end of each month that cash will be divided among participating sites a Flattr member wants to reward. Members might want to reward a band that made a track they liked, the author of a story they enjoyed or a site that gave useful advice. Participating sites will sport a Flattr button in the same way that many have clickable icons that let visitors send information to friends or refer something they find interesting to sites such as Digg and Redditt.

Flattr is currently in a closed trial but hopes to be ready to launch by the end of March 2010. It is seeking partners looking to generate some cash from their content.
Obviously it's not just the pirate bay, but I'd hate it if this happened.
Heard this one many times, it never gets done don't expect anything to happen this time.
no.
How could this happen?!
This isn't a bad idea. [editline]09:46PM[/editline] However i'm rather conservative when it comes to TPB.

The title is a stupid guess by the OP, nothing more. Or, now that I checked the source, it's a stupid guess by the author who wrote the story.
This isn't a bad idea.
No It is a horrible idea
If I see one more new "hip name" that thinks they're cool by omitting a vowel, I'm going to kill myself.
The title is a stupid guess by the OP, nothing more.
Did you go to the BBC site?
Well its going to loose all of its popularity in one shot if it does.
If I see one more new "hip name" that thinks they're cool by omitting a vowel, I'm going to kill myself.
I agree There has already been 2 in this thread already. Its not new or original.
The title is a stupid guess by the OP, nothing more.
Yes now read the news article.
Well how else do you expect them to pay the $4.5 Million they were sued for?
Looks like I will have to download my Linux binaries from Demonoid :(
It's not like the world will end if this happens (which I doubt it will) There are plenty of other sites.
Yes now read the news article.
You're supposed to include the news article's header in a news post so stuff like this doesn't happen. Anyways, there's a way more accurate article on Slashdot about this, all this is, is a project by a guy who was/is with Thepiratebay.

The whole point of piracy is the fact is it free, no one in their right mind is going to pay to pirate something. But this was suppose to happen before and it didn't. Someone is just trying to blow smoke up our arses.
Making a file-sharing site have subscription fees is fucking ludicrous. Especially since there's so much more out there that offer virtually the same torrents.
Making a file-sharing site have subscription fees is fucking ludicrous. Especially since there's so much more out there that offer virtually the same torrents.
It killed off Limewire,Frostwire,Bertwire ect
It won't happen, just like the last few times.
Exactly.
TPB is the only place I have left to get my Linux distributions. :frown:
Isohunt.
You you put money in the pot, pick where you want it to go, then go download however much you want?
Yeah, maybe but I am pretty sure it seems like he's gonna use it on TPB.
The point of this service is so that you can pay the authors, if you want to.
No one will pay and it will crash and burn. Than return the regular old pirate bay that it always has been.
Torrents are so last year for those Linux Distros. Direct downloads is where it's at.
It killed off Limewire,Frostwire,Bertwire ect
they were shit
