"Batman: Arkham City," the sequel to Rocksteady Games' award-winning 2009 hit "Batman: Arkham Asylum" is coming later this year with a new story in which Arkham Asylum has fallen, prompting the warden-turned-mayor to wall off a Gotham neighborhood and establish it as a home for the incarcerated. There's obviously a pretty juicy story connecting the events since the end of the previous game to the coming sequel, a story which will be explored in a comic book miniseries from DC Comics.
Bearing the same name as the game, the six-issue "Batman: Arkham City" series will pick up one year after the events of the first game, following former Arkham warden Quincy Sharp's confirmation as city mayor, DC blog The Source reports. We'll see the new mayor establish his "Escape From New York"-inspired prison and install psychiatrist Hugo Strange to run things behind the walls... though we already know that Strange has a secret, presumably villainous, agenda of his own.
The first two issues of "Batman: Arkham City" will arrive in May, with simultaneous day-and-date release for print and digital versions, for $2.99 apiece. Each release will alternate with eight-page digital-first interludes which expands on the story laid out in the miniseries. These will be available for $0.99 apiece.
Writer Paul Dini, known for his work on "Batman: The Animated Series" as well as both of Rocksteady's "Batman" games, will also be bringing his talents to the miniseries. He's one of the best Caped Crusader writers working today, and its been great seeing him so closely involved in the game series. "Arkham Asylum" isn't just a fun game, it's a testament to the potential quality an interactive narrative can reach for.
I was expecting it to be released for free since it's a filler but oh well. This is good too right?
