Explosions and heavy gunfire rocked a town in northern Macedonia on Saturday as police moved against what authorities described as an "armed group", heightening fears of instability in the ex-Yugoslav republic after months of political crisis. Medical workers said at least four officers had been seriously wounded after special police units in armored vehicles launched an operation in a suburb of Kumanovo, some 40 km (25 miles) north of the capital Skopje in an area that saw fighting during an ethnic Albanian insurgency in 2001. The town was sealed off and 10 hours after the operation began shortly before daybreak a Reuters photographer reported hearing intense automatic gunfire and two loud explosions. Helicopters circled the ethnically-mixed region of some 100,000 people and an interior ministry spokesman said he had information on "casualties" but refused to say how many. The events are likely to deepen concern in the West over stability in Macedonia, where the government is on the ropes over allegations by the main opposition, the Social Democrats, of illegal wire-tapping and widespread abuse of office.

Interior ministry spokesman Ivo Kotevski said that police had acted "on previously received information about an armed group". He told a press conference the gunmen were planning "terrorist acts" and had "infiltrated" the country from a neighboring state, without saying which.
Damn those Bulgarian terrorists. :') http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/05/09/us-macedonia-police-idUSKBN0NU06X20150509 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=315_1431171781 3 policemans are confirmed dead and at least 15 are injured.
16.07 - One of the group that bears the name of the National Liberation Army, or KLA, via the Internet claimed responsibility for the attack on the Macedonian police, in response to the "days-long harassment of Albanians in the region of Kumanovo," says Pristina Bota Sot. The credibility of these claims, for now, can not be verified. Islamist volunteers from Western Europe of ethnic Albanian, Turkish, and North African origin, were organized by Islamist leaders in Western Europe allied to Bin Laden and Zawahiri. Some 175 Yemeni mujahideen arrived in early May 1998.[7] The KLA included many foreign volunteers from West Europe, mostly from Germany and Switzerland, and also ethnic Albanians from the US. According to the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by September 1998, there was 1,000 foreign mercenaries from Albania, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina (Muslims) and Croatia. They wore the Albanian and US flags, chanted "KLA", "UCK" (KLA). It's amusing how this receives no attention at all from major western news media even tho shit surrounding ethnicity of 'armed group' has been happening for weeks now, and guess who called it exactly on this forum that Macedonia is next, followed by Montenegro? My friend from Kumanovo is saying that it's basically full out war down there.
Ok, going to play Devil's Avocado and ask for some proper background on this, since when were the Albanians so uppity in post-Yugo Wars regions? I seriously have never heard of these issues post-'99
Last thing the world needs is another Balkans War, no offense to any natives from that region. It'll get ugly quick and we'll see stupidity rule the day.
Well maybe they wouldn't happen if US kindly fucked off already and stopped playing Cold War 2.0 over Balkans because of the South Stream. :^)

Not skirting blame away from my country, but I also realize that dumping it at our feet is pretty sad.
-snip-
And just a follow-up on my post, I am not calling the people of the region stupid. Just a simple fact concerning warfare, once blood hits the streets there's not many people who can talk down fanatics, religious extremists, or raving nationalists who all want blood. Not to mention the outside influences of all the powers of the world..

Last time i remembered, your home country's Communism basically caused most of the conflict in the Yugoslav wars. Pull head out of thy arse.

Are these the same terrorist group that are claiming the territories of many countries for a "Greater Albania"?

But for some retarded reason they stayed faithful to Hoxha and believed that their little dream nation of Great Albania was ever going to happen.

You're missing the point. Bulgaria is out of the South Stream project. Turkey agreed to pass a pipeline for Russia and so did Greece. Albania won't do it because they're controlled by the US. If Macedonia joins the anti-Russian camp (by staging a coup, or electing a new president because this one couldn't deal with the unrest OR he was too brutal or whatever) then Putin's pipeline is dead. There have been confirmed threats by US officials to governments in the region not to let Russians build the pipeline (hence why Bulgaria backed out in the first place and Nuland staging a coup in Macedonia), I'll see to link them here, but I'll refrain from discussing the matter here because Facepunch is shit tier place for reasonable discussion. I remember when I posted ~year ago that Macedonia will have same shit happening like Serbia had with Kosovo and people laughed at that.

The article, claiming KLA/UCK claimed responsibility (not that I'm saying is 100% false, all countries have their own extremists), shows no proof of it, and is a biased source considering RTS is a Serbian source, along with N1, which has its headquarters in the capital of Serbia too. As someone said earlier, proper background is needed, especially from sources that can be trusted and not biased news stations.
Well maybe they wouldn't happen if US kindly fucked off already and stopped playing Cold War 2.0 over Balkans because of the South Stream. :^)
Still staying true to father Russia by blaming the US for whats happened until now.
I remember when I posted ~year ago that Macedonia will have same shit happening like Serbia had with Kosovo and people laughed at that.
How many times have you made threads and posted in threads relating to the balkans claiming everyone else except for your country to be the badguy? I guess all the other times you had discussions about the Balkans in the "shit teir place for reasonable discussion" didn't really give you that drift, huh.
Damn those Bulgarian terrorists. :')
Sorry, we just didn't want them here any more so we sent them away.
