So I've seen this commercial on TV a few times since September and I recently found their youtube channel and thought I would share this "service" with you guys.

Its obviously a bullshit attempt to scare less computer literate people into giving this company their credit card info, especially since I cannot find any info on their website on how this "scan" actually works.
I've heard of this. I bet it's just https://haveibeenpwned.com/ kind of thing.

:snip:
It looks a lot like BeenPwned don't to count of how many leaks. They just decided to combine it with their own data collection.

Which would be good thought, if Experian didn't already have your credit card info, since they are one of the the big 3 credit agencies. :v:
But yeah, good luck with scan even pulling anything remotely useful unless they have copies of compromised data on hand.
I'm making a web crawler for my Cloud Security class, and one of the first things my group did was throw out the notion that we could crawl the dark web for user info. I don't really think it's feasible given that it uses different protocols and is much more secure, but I may be wrong.
Experian is legitimate, what on earth are you talking about saying it's just a way for them to get your credit card information lmao
Almost all credit agencies either use Experian or Equifax, I've not been able to apply for credit / loans without them checking my credit rating with one of these agencies.
As for this dark web scanning gimmick, it's a bit markety, but it does work. My Experian account told me that one of my emails had it's password on an info dump and that I should change the password. So I guess it just trawls the internet for any of your personal data and tells you if it's out there. It's nifty, but I wouldn't pay money for it.

You're American, dude. I'm genuinely confused by you not knowing Experian is a major credit agency

Yeah the first thing I thought was how does an automated system manage to scan a bunch of slow ass and/or private networks.
