A Deltona man holed up in a home off Courtland Boulevard was taken into custody shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday and charges are pending, a Volusia County sheriff’s spokesman said.
The identity of the man, believed to be 28 years old, was not immediately released. He had been in his Hanford Drive home with his wife and child shortly before 2 p.m. with a firearm and was threatening to kill himself, sheriff’s spokesman Gary Davidson.
“The wife and child were able to leave,” Davidson said shortly after he was taken into custody. “He was refusing to come out.”
Shots were fired by the man during the standoff, but no one was hit or injured.
Was definitely an interesting way to spend the evening, sitting on the floor of a bathroom staring out of a window taking pictures/recording an event like this.
Apparently what happened (what the articles won't tell) is the man is having job trouble / almost lost his job, so he was upset by that when the dishwasher broke, and then he tripped and dropped his infant son while carrying him to bed. Spiraled into a depression/rage, started drinking, got his shotgun out and threatened to kill himself, his wife and 3 kids went to the neighbors and called the police to try and talk him down and then it kinda spiraled out of control.
The standoff lasted from around 2:30 or so to just after 6:30, then CSI was there way past then. They ended up with two SWAT vans, like 6 patrol cars, and a bomb squad truck (to check for booby-traps like most suicidal guys that hole in a house leave I guess, I don't know)

I really feel sorry for this guy. He was actually a very nice neighbor, and now he's probably not going to get to raise his kids because of a stupid mistake.
Oh he's scarred now, poor guy.

Curious to see what his charges are.

2nd article I posted. Sorry I probably should have quoted it.
1 count of discharging a firearm in public and 8 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. His bail is set at $41,000.
Crossing the despair event horizon can be an ugly spectacle.
It's sad seeing events like these happen.
People need to talk more about what bothers them. I bottle up my feelings all the time, and it does only take little accidents like that to happen on a bad day to trigger a meltdown
Hot damn, at least nobody got killed so that is a plus.

dwarf fortress has taught me a thing or two about spirals of despair
It's really messed up being so close to stuff like this. Near the beginning of this year there was a similar case that happened a few doors down from me, but the guy also threatened to blow the house up with the oven. :v:
Thankfully, no one was hurt in the end and he was arrested by a bunch of armed officers, but it really makes you realise someone can snap and easily be a scare to you and your family in an instant.
Good thing he was captured before he did any harm, but I do feel sorry for him. It sounds like he had a bad day, to say the least.
1) Did you ever get those pizzas?
2) Did you ever fuck that girl down the street?
Reminds me of a guy who tried to "kill himself" who used to live near me, I say kill himself in quotes because you'll see, the ways he tried to "kill himself"
- Hang himself from a bus stop, with a shoelace in broad daylight in the middle of the day
-Tried to have a "fatal accident" by driving into a tree at about 10mph at most, most of his speed being reduced by the big ass bush in front of the tree.
-Threatened that he'd dumped a load of petrol(gasoline) in his flat and would set it alight and blow everyone on the estate up (when police finally got access there was no petrol)
-Managed to sneak in a craft knife blade into a court (I'll explain in a bit) and threatened to cut his own throat.
The reason I don't think they were genuine attempts to kill himself were because he was due in court because he was discovered to be a paedophile (it was during his sentencing that he pulled the knife) , so I think his attempts were convinient (but ultimately failing) suicide attempts in order to try and get sectioned instead of jailed.
If he wanted to die so badly, all he had to do was let one of the residents here at him, to think what was going on, for years, not 30 meters away from me, is absoloutely infuriating and disgusting, especially once you know more of the details of what he did to the kid. I swear, if he ever shows his face around town, I'll fucking smash it in, and I'm not the only one in this town who would. What makes him even more of a scumbag is after he was jailed, he fucking sent letters to the boys fucking house. It went on for years, there was always something off about him and looking back on it, now the things that were a bit off made sense, like the two teenage lads that always used to visit his (everyone on the estate assumed they were his nephews or some shit.)

Hey buddy what's up?
Where in Deltona?
Same thing happened to the people who lived behind me some years ago. I had cops with AR-15s in my backyard prepared to shoot a guy who wasn't even there
