Idiots will be idiots.
Wasn't our recession the cause of some policies set back 20 years ago? Our politicians really need to stop settling for the short-term shit
You know, these taxes would also affect small business owners, aka people who provide jobs. We are trying to get our economy to recover, so maybe tax hikes aren't the best idea. At least that's what economists say, anyway. You can't just look at debt and go "lol taxes", you want to put more money in the people's pockets so they reinvest it, not take it from them to counter the massive debt added by government spending that helped to screw us anyway.
At least that's what economists say, anyway
Is this the club of economist super friends, or the league of extraordinary economists? Economists don't belong to some fucking club, SOME (probably a minority) of economists think that taxation is a bad idea. Economists still run on their personal opinions and theories.
If they'd just tax the rich properly (IE More) there'd be a hell of a lot less financial problems right now.
If they'd just tax the rich properly (IE More) there'd be a hell of a lot less financial problems right now.
If they didn't spend trillions to bail out just the banks, then we'd be in a hell of a lot better shape economically.

It doesn't matter if they have higher taxes because at the end of the day they still have a fuckton of money to do stuff with. Secondly, the best way to get money is taxing people. So a way to lower debt would be to increase taxes in the highest tax bracket (the rich). Thirdly, tax breaks only really work on poor people and a portion of the middle class. It works best for the poorest people because they take that money and spend it right away because they need to (for food, bills, etc.). Middle class people just pocket the money and many times choose to save it for later since it isn't a necessity. Of course there is still a large portion that spend it. The rich people couldn't care less about the breaks because they already get so much money, so they just dump it all into a bank. They don't need that money to purchase stuff, so it doesn't go back into the economy. And finally, as far as I'm aware the new tax legislation is raising taxes, but keeping small businesses tax free (or at a very low percentage) all the way through 2011. So the small business argument doesn't really apply. Although, the bailout was definitely bigger.
You're right dogmachine, you should be the new economic advisor to the Obama administration. I'm sure you're more qaulified than the highly experienced and trained individuals that are already working for the whitehouse. Out of curiosity, what do you think would have happened if a large number of banks collapsed from debt?
I love how they brand themselves as the party of the people. -Cut taxes for the wealthy. -Give money to large corporations that then lay-off workers. -Oppose universal healthcare while at the same time getting it for free as senators. -Support the stripping of civil rights for security. Real populist huh.
Wasn't our recession the cause of some policies set back 20 years ago? Our politicians really need to stop settling for the short-term shit
Easy credit plus a constant drive since the 30s for "affordable housing", but yeah, since the 70s/80s it's been one bigass push to get people in houses they couldn't afford and to overhype and sell the mortgages in a big, deregulated, bi-partisan clusterfuck. This is called not letting a good crisis go to waste. Gotta hate on the partisan bullshit while there's something to blame it for. That said, it's fucking tax cuts for dudes we don't know, let 'em kill it.
God you people are dense about the republican party.
lol
ITT: Blindly bash and generalize all Republicans.
ITT: Blindly bash and generalize all Republicans.
Not really; when you're claiming that a certain group (one defined by what it endorses) is endorsing something, you're not at all generalizing; you're merely stating the truth.
lol
Because a democrat who lives in a democratic household knows what republicans are like better than an ex republican and is living in a republican household.
Idiots will be idiots.
Its the basis of this forum.

Not a cent went to people who lost their money. Almost all of it went to high-ranking members of the company.
Wooo! Democrat circle jerk!
Politicians on both sides love spending money. They won't even do anything about the deficit we're in, even though they talk about it. We are going to spend ourselves out of existence.
Politicians on both sides love spending money. They won't even do anything about the deficit we're in, even though they talk about it. We are going to spend ourselves out of existence.
Unfortunately true.

Idiots gonna diot [editline]05:16AM[/editline] :downs:
If they didn't spend trillions to bail out just the banks, then we'd be in a hell of a lot better shape economically.
Only a small portion of the stimulus bailed out the banks [editline]07:00AM[/editline]
God you people are dense about the republican party.
hahahaha
Because a democrat who lives in a democratic household knows what republicans are like better than an ex republican and is living in a republican household.
elucidate us
Because a democrat who lives in a democratic household knows what republicans are like better than an ex republican and is living in a republican household.
I haven't seen one opposing argument in this thread, just a lot of whining republicans. [editline]07:04AM[/editline]
That's why I'm voting libertarian this next election. CUT EVERYTHING!
and let the economy fucking fail?
Politicians on both sides love spending money. They won't even do anything about the deficit we're in, even though they talk about it. We are going to spend ourselves out of existence.
nonsense. Does the stimulus count for nothing?
elucidate us
The party's new economic basis is tax cuts for all, rather than the higher class. Socially, they are pretty much the same IE: Lenient gun laws and no gay marriage. The party has changed since bush you know, because parties can like, change.
Sarah Palin?
Sarah Palin?
Sarah Palin is seriously a bad mark on the republican party. I have never seen someone so ignorant and generally dumb.
