There are a lot of plants that look very similar, some of which are common garden plants. People at the gardening show are assholes for reporting her to the police.

IIRC there was once a farmer who accidentally had like one plant of weed growing on his field or something and because he let the police take it away right away he wasn't charged or anything.

If it came out they knew about it and didn't report it, they could get into even more trouble than the granny. On top of that, common practice for the police in situations like this is tell the person who has the plant to just dispose of it. Oh man, the innocence of my family regarding weed. :v: First off, my mom was a base-brat (grandpa was in the Air Force) and they were stationed in Alaska. Back then, it was legal to grow, but not sell, so there were head-shops often sharing the same space as record stores. Mom wanted to buy some records (should tell you how long ago this was) so grandma took her to the record store. Mom's going through the records to find one she likes while grandma starts wandering around, and she stops and gazes at this 4-foot tall bong which I'm told was exceptionally well made and quite the sight to behold. She almost bought it because she thought it was a vase. "Mom! That's a bong!" "I don't care, it's pretty!" In another instance, someone had broken up some weed in my great-great aunt's kitchen for some reason, and left some seeds on the table. When she found them later, she thought they were tomato seeds (they look similar I guess) so she scooped them up and put them in a pot. It wasn't until it was about a foot high when someone saw it and told her what it was. :v:
