That, my friend, is a plasma speaker. Yes, the sounds you are hearing all come from that arc of plasma. Not only does it look completely awesome, it also sounds better than conventional speakers because it directly vibrates air particles to cause the sounds or something like that. Anyway, the only reason, I think, they don’t do these is because it is extremely dangerous. One touch and you can say good bye to yourself and if by chance you don’t die, the place it touched probably would have been vaporized.
Oh wow what an awesome yet dangerous concept. The guy should stick something in it so we can see what happens.
The first second was ear rape.
I hate how it hasn't gotten any bass at all. Also wouldn't it produce lots of ozone since its electricity travelling through lots of air n stuff?

That isn't a nice turning on sound.
(...)Not only does it look completely awesome, it also sounds better than conventional speakers because it directly vibrates air particles to cause the sounds or something like that.(...)
Yes it looks cool. But speakers also directly let the air vibrate and sound better. This arc is simply missing bases.
And it isn't that dangerous, because the flow isn't between phase and ground (I am not sure if these are proper English terms for them) as in normal electrical device like an fridge, but only between the 2 electrodes. If you put something in the way of the arc, it would burn you, but nothing like vaporizing in HL2. If you touched one of electrodes, it would kill you no easier than any other 100V/230V device with unguarded parts of circuit. [editline]10:02PM[/editline] Also, it lacks bass and most of mids, so it is pretty much only usable for high frequencies, as part of theoretical combined loudspeaker. And about it sounding better than normal speaker - most sounds we know and want to reproduce (as music or speech), are reproduced by actual vibrating objects, which vibrate with the air afterward. For reproducing these sounds, vibrating membrane is pretty much ideal. I say that the arc maybe sounds good, but when it comes to realism of the sound, it will never sound as good as high grade speakers. [editline]10:04PM[/editline] So, they aren't kept from being used for because of being dangerous, but for being pointless. Only their pro worth consideration is the actual coolness of the way how is the sound made.

It sounded a lot clearer on the midtones, but anything beyond that was no better than a bad set of speakers.
Yeah, as stated, not good for bass.
You may notice the speaker is tiny.
Whats that guys energy bill?
So what is this plasma? You do realize it yould be anything from a flame to an electrical arc. Plasma is just a condition, not a substance
Pretty bad ass, even without the bass it's awesome.
How do we know it sounds better?
I fucking love Dream Theater
Liquid Tension Experiment! :fuckyou:
Not practical in any sense of the word. However, it's badass.

Looks amazing, They should put glass to cover it...
I already made a huge thread about this
I already did a search, didn't find anything. I did however, get 13 pages of irrelevant crap including plasma grenades from the GMod section.
Next Video: How to roast marshmallows and listen to tunes with the same device.
I wonder what happends if you touch it.. :crossarms:
