What, so there's a weapon that can transform into an axe, a great sword and a sword&shield now?
As if the transformer axe in 3 isn't fancy enough
We transformer now

I don't think it can be all three, I think it's mainly sword and board + axe but, while they're different play styles, it does kind of make the switch axe gimmick pointless.
The Sword and Shield switch axe is cool, but seems kind of pointless when switch axes were fucking amazing at doing strong repeated attacks that wouldn't bounce. The greatsword transformation was extremely good too. But a sword and shield is already made to do extended combos while remaining agile and defensive. It just seems kind of awkward that Capcom would make weapon with such a flexible playstyle.
So it's gonna' be out for that new DS? I just bought my 3DSXL 8 months ago. :c

It's a Charge Blade, or Shield Axe as some people call it. It's got 2 modes, Shield & Sword and Axe mode. For the Shield & Sword mode, it's got more damage than regular SnS but less mobility and can't use item, and you gain charges when attacking monsters in this mode.
For the Axe mode, it's slower but it has better range and you can unleash charges to deal some heavy attack which, depends on the axe, can stuns or deal extra elemental damage to the monsters.
This weapon gets added along with the Insect Glaive in MH4, but there are like only 9 different Charge Blade there so I think it is getting the focus in this game. From what I know right now, it's got new moves and a lot more different variations for this weapon in 4G.

Example of some new moves this weapon gets.
I am pretty hyped for this game right now.
