Experts are worried that the virus is spreading far and fast, with devastating consequences. The infection has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains.
Currently, there is no vaccine or medication to stop Zika. The only way to avoid catching it is to avoid getting bitten by the Aedes mosquitoes that transmit the infection.
There have been around 4,000 reported cases of microcephaly - babies born with small brains - in Brazil alone since October.
Mosquitos must be stricken from the global ecosystem.

Mosquitos are now banned.

Funnily enough, from what I've read we could get rid of mosquitos and ecosystems would be perfectly fine.
Diabetes will save the world.
My dad was a brittle type 1 diabetic, and we would actually watch mosquitoes bite him and then fly off 'drunk' and drop dead from the cocktail of drunks in his blood.
What would happen to people bitten who are already adults?
What would happen to people bitten who are already adults?
I think the whole point is that adults get bit, which causes their developing child to have underdeveloped brains upon being born

Some places in Norway mosquitoes are the sole(mostly) nutrition for mountain trout.
We'll be fine.
We will, those thousands of babies won't though
oh shit; hope these don't make it to florida
Been following this during train rides over here. As far as I've read, the virus is also transmittable via blood, and has been seen in sperm as well. Some cases of the Zika virus has also been seen in Sweden and Denmark, while Norway doesn't have the equipment to check for it.
Edit:
Whoa, four minutes ago?
I'm surprised the info screens on Norwegian trains are way ahead of other media. Not sure how BBC got drift of it though. NSB uses mostly Routers.
why don't we develop a flesh eating virus specifically for mosquitos
fuck them

There's no shortage of apocalypse movies telling up how much of a bad idea that is.

Or just breed millions of bats?
Another way nature is telling us to go fuck ourselves.
Or just breed millions of bats?
Bats are pretty disease ridden aswell
[editline]1st February 2016[/editline]
As are rats, flies and pidgeons for that matter
Fuck it, kill every living thing except for a handpicked few

They don't bother people.
Funnily enough, from what I've read we could get rid of mosquitos and ecosystems would be perfectly fine.
well its the ones that feed on humans that are not native to pretty much all the ecosystems they inhabit
Mosquitos are an integral part of quite a few ecosystems. Their larva provide food for thousands of different species of fish and insects.
Or just breed millions of bats?
Or just release billions of infertile male mosquitos since females can only mate once before they die
This is hell. With ebola or similar at least you know something is wrong when people start bleeding trough their cavities, but this... you only know something is wrong when you get a sick newborn child. Even the most horrible movies are not so cruel as mother nature.
It's the Children of Men virus
Well at least it won't matter if any FPers get bit, since we don't stand a chance of having babies anyways
In brasil they experimented with genetically modified mosquitoes to erase their populations. It was carried out by a british firm
And it worked!
Science!

Were they genetically engineered or just sterile trough UV radiation ?
Were they genetically engineered or just sterile trough UV radiation ?
Gen.Modified. I think they altered them so as to propague a strain that makes them sterile.
