Kathleen Kennedy has just confirmed at Star Wars Celebration Europe that John Williams will return to score Star Wars: Episode VII.
Appearing on a pre-recorded video, Williams said he was delighted to be returning to the saga, and said that while he had not seen the script, he was looking forward to drawing on some of his original themes and adding new material.
"I look forward to returning to a galaxy far, far away... I actually feel like I never left it," says Williams. "I'm happy to be a continuing part of the Star Wars saga... and the joy in the journey of discovery that awaits us all."
He goes on to say why he thinks Kennedy and Abrams are perfect choices to continue the saga.
It had been rumoured for a while that the Academy award winning composer would return to work on the upcoming films, with Abrams expressing his interest in working with Williams.

John Williams is one of the greats.
Still get chills from the SW music

I'm still overly annoyed to this day, that he didn't get to do all of the Potter films. the third films soundtrack is simply perfect and the series never really recovered. 4 was good on account of deliberately emulating John Williams. but for the rest of the films, only 6 and 8 had acceptable soundtracks.
Just THINKING about the consistency he could have brought to the series... Imagine if Peter Jackson kicked Howard Shore after two LOTR films and then went for a techno soundtrack. Yeah. That's what went wrong with HP's soundtracks.

I'm not sure what you mean

That's one thing that's pretty much confirmed to be good about the new movie then. Good to hear
I'm so relieved. There's no Star Wars without Williams.
I would expect no-one else.
Even listening to those small little SW tracks brought back so many memories sitting on the floor infront of the TV as a kid as my mom would put in the VHS tape and rewind it so we could watch it for the 500th time.
Such iconic sounds.

Just listen to that. I don't know if this would count as Williams, though?
tell him to rip off stravinsky and holst again so we can have memorable tracks that aren't big bombastic choir songs pls

Fucking knew it. Someone I know owes me £10.
the soundtracks for episodes 1-3 are some of the only good things that came of the prequels:

major chills
There's a difference between John Williams and JOHN WILLIANS™
Not saying the people that work for him suck, he doesn't do the work like he used to.
