Hey, DD, I'm already sick of my shitty homemade plastic bottle bong, but I don't have money to drop on a real one, so I found this sexy wine bottle in my garage that I'm dying to turn into a bong.
However, I don't believe I have any glass cutting equipment, nor would I know how to use it.
It's pretty thick looking glass, so am I safe to just drill into it with a regular drill?
Only need two small holes for my downstem and a carb
Bottle is "Forgiveness" by Giessinger, if anyone's interested.
Just use a normal drill, But drill it underwater slowly and its not gonna shatter into pieces.
But then again im not sure wait for other responses here i dont want to be responsible for your broken bottle if im wrong.
First select a sheet of glass that is suitable in size and thickness for the project you have in mind. Make sure the glass you choose is not tempered or safety glass. These types of glass can only be drilled with special equipment not available to ordinary craftsmen.Purchase a selection of glass bits from the local home center or hardware store. Carbide bits have a spade shaped point, and are made to withstand the friction of drilling in glass. (Please note that multiple sites on the net recommend round-head diamond bits for holes up to 1/2", and hollow-core diamond bits above 1/2". Diamond bits will drill many holes with one bit and rarely cause breakage if properly used. Carbide bits can generally only drill one hole.
Cut the sheet of glass the size you want for your project, or have it cut and the edges beveled or finished at the place where you buy it.
Hole too close to corner Measure the location of your holes, being careful to stay as far away from corners and edges as possible, never drilling within 3/4 inch from any edges.
5Place the glass on an extremely flat surface where it is completely supported. It is preferable to have a rubber pad or other firm, cushioning material underneath it, but the glass MUST be flat and supported.
Chuck a bit in a variable speed drill motor tightly. Starting with a small bit, maybe about 1/8 or 3/32 inch, place it at the center point of the hole location, and begin drilling. Use constant pressure pushing on the drill, and try to maintain a slow, steady drilling speed.
Reverse the sheet when the drill is about to reach the opposite side of the glass. Often, when the drill punches through glass, it will spall, or chip, the back side, so drilling back to meet the initial hole is better. This first hole is a "pilot" hole, it will guide the subsequent larger bits as you work your way up to the size of your finished hole.
Drill each hole required with each size bit before proceeding to the next size. As you use larger bits, less pressure should be required to keep the bit cutting, and lower drill speeds should be used.
I googled and found this.
you gotta use a diamond drillbit dawg
bro i can only find lead, havent even gone far enough to get diamond
Easy, I made 2 beer bottle bongs (one a bubbler) and I made the holes be taking a little hammer and a metal chisel-like thing (any strong sharp metal will work) and chiseled away!
BUT make sure the contour of the glass bottle is round, like a beer bottle. The chiseling doesn't break the glass because the rounded face gives resistance, and you can make a pretty even circle! Try it on a beer bottle or something first, I broke the first one after I tried it, but nailed the others (pun ;D)!
DO NOT use a normal wooden drill bit with the spiral cuts, these catch the glass and rip it apart, resulting in shattering and a big mess! You may think the chiseling method takes forever, but it only took me 5 to 10 minutes ;D
diamondhead drill, either submerge the glass into water or have a hose leaking watter over the hole ur drilling.
Rather than trying to make it like a traditional bong, perhaps consider one of these two designs. I find this works a lot better than trying to fit a downstem in the side of a glass bottle.

With the right downstem you can even have a bowl that you pull out [rather than a carb hole] I usually use small wine bottles because you can use a standard glass diffuser stem and bowl.

Please excuse my awful sleep deprived illustration :v:
i remember my first homemade pipe.
it was made out of a crayola crayon sharpener.
it was shit, but it got the job done back then.
Drill bits to cut glass can be as cheap as 2 bucks at a hardware store. Just go to your local handyman store and ask someone to help you find a cheap drill bit that will cut glass, it's their job to be helpful.
can you use small bottles like

its a neat bottle
wouldnt it be weird with the marble inside
if you can't be assed to make a glass bong, take a plastic bottle and heat up the end of the bowlpiece with a lighter and poke it through, or use a lit cigarette to burn a hole through the plastic
and voila, piece of shit popper bottle!
-snip-
Use a diamond tip drill to go through glass and you will go clean through. It may sound expensive but they are about $5 on ebay.
if you want to drill propers hole with the right VC and shit, you need a diamondtip
otherwise get a really good HSS tip from a specialise workshop, using a very low rpm and not putting a lot of force on the glass/tip, you should be able to remove some matter (very slowly though). Don't forget to use a special cooling grease for your tip, and dip it often in it
