I've actually wondered this for a long time.
Michael's ability to segway into existential topics from any other topic still impresses me.
I like the way he explains things. Makes you think.
whenever i watch stuff about vision it makes me too conscious of it so I can't see right for a little bit

You mean segue, right?
That thing about your thumb and your blind spot
well then.

i had to pause the video because I freaked out too much on how crazy that was. Holy shit, I didn't know we had that.

I knew we had it, and I just not got it to work properly.
It's so weird moving your thumb but you DON'T SEE IT MOVING.
Really messes with you.
if you can't do the blind spot test manually:

if you place your thumb where the disappearing letter is, your thumb will vanish from existence.
[editline]10th March 2014[/editline]
i would not recommend doing so.

I just tried this and damn that is trippy.
It's like my brain is doing a Photoshop Content Aware fill on my vision.

Is there anything wrong with the OP, by any chance?

WHAT IS THIS SORCERY
GET THE FUCK OUTTA MY BRAIN
I think that the coolest thing about our blind spots is that our brain is totally used to them, and tries its best to compensate for that lost information by trying to fill in the blanks for us.
It must take a bit of energy to be constantly doing this, making up information for us to see, every moment that our eyes are open.
Almost like our eyes aren't really open at all.

the letters remained there, I did this properly
I mean they were infrequent, but I could still see the letter

Its easy to understand, even if you know nothing about science, you catch it quickly.

If I look at it just right, the letter in the blind spot starts rapidly changing into other letters. That's really cool.
the letters remained there, I did this properly

You're doing it wrong because it's physically impossible to see it if done right.

i still love that fucking vsauce music mmmmmmmmm

Am I the only one who can't stand his videos?
His face, his beard, his mannerism, the way he. Talks and pauses and talks.
I'm not here to stir the beehive but I can't understand how you can stand him..
I watched this video:

[sp]and now his videos don't bother me anymore. I don't know why it works, have Michael explain it.[/sp]
Seen it, it's spot on. It doesn't "work" though.
that's just you...??
I don't know. I like him, but 1/4th of the ratings in the OP aren't in favor so I'm guessing some are starting to dislike the way he makes videos.
To each his own though. I personally learn a lot more than what I came for when I watch Vsauce.
When I get migraines, my whole vision goes into "content aware mode", where my brain tries to fill in all the missing spots in my vision
imagine what I see.

I have this too.
Once content-aware mode turns off, you get the feeling that someone is poking you with a pencil behind one of your eyes.

jaden?

I get the same exact thing when I start having a migrane. I usually describe it as the corners of my eyes looking fuzzy and the headache hasn't quite hit then so I know I'm in for a good time...

Just a centimeter before the L disappears, it turns into a + for me. Spooky.
