Well their objective is attention, showing up at random funerals without notice and hope someone will tell the media doesn't get as much attention as announcing to the whole Internet that you're going to do it.
I'd say this is a good way to deal with them, by doing this human wall not only are they preventing WBC from getting to the funeral but they are also diverting attention from WBC to them.

The Patriot Guard has done these types of rides to protect soldier's funerals from WBC Protestors. IIRC, the Hell's Angels is also joining into this with a few other MCs'

An amazing tactic; if this were a universe where belief equalled actual cosmic power, the Warband would be making bank roundabout now, and WBC would need to take out a loan of power to make up for the losses.
But this ain't that kinda world, and strong widespread belief does not make something elementally stronger in the cosmic scheme of things, so I don't know why they do this horrible stuff, other than a feeling of "group belonging" combined with sick vindication of their cultist beliefs.
In other words, attention whores don't get stronger the more you hate them, and they're probably doing this for a sense of "community" wherein they feel like they're part of something bigger.
