This thread is completely devoted to this here godly instrument. That's right, the Rickenbacker 4001 bass. HISTORY The 4001 was first manufactured in 1961 as an updated version of the 4000. It was a very famous bass was used by most of the pioneers in rock and roll. CONSTRUCTION copypasta from wikipedia:
The Rickenbacker 4001 was designed with the "crested-wave" body shape, much like the other basses of the 4000 series. The 4001 model features a neck-through construction, a full-wood body, fret board with metal strings (originally flat-wound, though many players replaced them with round-wounds), twin truss rods, triangle inlays, two pickups, two volume and two tone dials, selector switch, and wiring for Rick-O-Sound (standard in models post-1971). Rickenbacker also produced six-string, and short-scale versions of the 4001 model.
PEOPLE USING THE 4001/4003 Lemmy playing on his piece. Paulie playing on one of his. The one, the only, Cliff Burton owning the world by playing his. Chris Squire playing his model, by popular demand. Arguably the bass god Les Claypool dominating his piece, thanks to Siminov for reminding me. Geddy Lee! And who can forget: I love the 4001. Definitely my dreambass, even though I have no money and play a Washburn XB-120. I'd like to hear from you. Any Rickenbacker players on Facepunch? Does anyone share my wild fantasy of owning one of these beasts?
Chris Squire not in the list of players. :colbert:
These are absolutely beautiful, and they sound great too. A shame though that I can't afford one.
Protip: Tokai Rockinbetter

lovely looking instruments, the sound is not my thing though. So unfortunately not my dream instrument.

My mate thinks they're ugly. Bollocks to him, what does he know?
Don't forget Les Claypool

The Tokai:
unsure on if i like the design or not. Looks kinda funny.
I wish they kept the Rickenbacker guitar with the same shape in production, the 481. The 4001 is badass but all the Rick guitars looks goofy to me :saddowns: Also yes, the frets are slanted. No I don't know why
I like the basses, but the guitars are meh
