LAKE COUNTY, Fla. —Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies shot and killed a man they assumed was an attempted murder suspect on Sunday, but they now know they shot the wrong man.

In the early-morning hours, deputies knocked on 26-year-old Andrew Lee Scott's door without identifying themselves as law enforcement officers. Scott answered the door with a gun in his hand. "When we knocked on the door, the door opened and the occupant of that apartment was pointing a gun at deputies, and that's when we opened fire and killed him,"

Residents said the unannounced knock at the door at 1:30 a.m. may be the reason why the tragedy happened.

Officials said the deputies did not identify themselves because of safety reasons.
http://www.wesh.com/news/central-florida/Deputies-shoot-kill-man-after-knocking-on-wrong-door/-/11788162/15527202/-/euk6tg/-/index.html#ixzz2L4S2jZcX Note that I put quotations around "knock" as the police most likely were pounding on the poor guy's door at 1:30 in the morning, especially after they thought they were at the suspect's door. Also note that these cops were in uniform and did not identify themselves as police when they were pounding on this man's door this early in the morning. They practically murdered him over their own stupidity and what was a honest mistake on the man's part.
Officials said the deputies did not identify themselves because of safety reasons.
"we're saying this to cover our arses because we fucked up and admitting it would look bad so tee hee silly man his fault!"
Bloody pigs.
Whatever happened to don't point a gun at anything you're not prepared to kill
1:30AM, pounders pounding on door.. I would be suspicious.
Whatever happened to don't point a gun at anything you're not prepared to kill
gee something is pounding on your door at 1;30am. it's totally not threatening to you whatsoever. there's also the fact that we only have the police's word that he pointed a gun at them. for all we know he might have had it skyward-pointed.
1:30AM, pounders pounding on door.. I would be suspicious.
Yeah, frankly, someone is pounding on your door at 1:30 AM, not identifying themselves, you have every right to open the door with a weapon readied.
The incompetence is astounding And from what I understand this is somewhat of a "cops will be cops" situation in America and there won't be much repercussion to speak of?
I'm sure I've heard of this exact same situation happening not too long ago. When will they learn.
actually i find it incredibly unusual that the guy didn't fire first, since he was the one with the gun pointed at them. surely they wouldn't have had weapons pointed at him? if they did, then there is surely questions to be answered.
Easy answer is they are talking shit and the gun wasn't pointed at them at all, just in his hands.
as i expected.
The guy most likely didn't fire at them because he then realized they were cops,
surely if he answered the door and they did have weapons pointed, he would have either fired or immediately disarmed? why did the police shoot immediately? this sounds like something out of fucking hitman, the second you remotely show any sign of a weapon everyone decides to turn you into a lead salad.

Inexcusable behavior that will inevitably be defended by a very predictable kind of people. If the guy was actually a threat to the point they needed people ready to shoot the hell out of him the moment they saw the glint of gunmetal, you'd have SWAT busting the door down, not some regulars playing tough by trying to do it themselves without the proper tools.
Whatever happened to don't point a gun at anything you're not prepared to kill
Do you actually believe the stupid shit you post or do you just do it for the attention? [editline]jesus[/editline] This was an obvious fuck up by the cops and their statement is a piss poor attempt to cover up their mistake. Stop trying to blame the victim.
Officials said the deputies did not identify themselves because of safety reasons.
They didn't feel safe, then why go knock on an attempted murder suspects front door instead of doing something to draw him out..
"Let's pound on the door. He'll definitely know we're police." How stupid can you get?
you know i wouldn't be surprised if this was a major overreaction by the officers in relation to the Dorner rampage.

Hasn't the exact same thing happened last year? Gesus christe.
Anybody pointing a gun at you is dangerous, how is this hard to understand
are you seriously incapable of rational reasoning or were you just born without that?? gasp a guy we just pounded at the door of is responding defensively!! blast him!!!!
Anybody pointing a gun at you is dangerous, how is this hard to understand
victim blaming, never mind his death could have been avoided if the police done their job properly.
Anybody pointing a gun at you is dangerous, how is this hard to understand
*ratatat tat* "police!!! open up!!" so hard to do? whoops sorry safety concerns we can't tell the person we presume a murderer is the police!!! oh wait we just pounded on the fucking door in the middle of the night after the presumed-perp murdered someone, tee hee we gave ourselves away anyway
you know i wouldn't be surprised if this was a major overreaction by the officers in relation to the Dorner rampage.
In this current time, when have they not had an overreaction?
victim blaming, never mind his death could have been avoided if the police done their job properly.
Yeah I am sure victim blaming by explaining that everyone has a right to defend themselves when someone threatens you [editline]16th February 2013[/editline]
You're ignoring every other factor like oh you know a guy going out the back or worse laying in wait for police, as opposed to coming to the front door
