I feel bad for Lord Kat. At least he managed to get a job since all this shit.
I am surprised they didn't mention this, but Spoony was fired during Doug's honeymoon and not even told until after it happened:

Holly is a massive, massive fucking piece of shit.
Holy fuck lmao what a spiral into assholeship
Spoony used to be one of the best. His play-through's of Phantasmagoria 2 and Ripper were some of my favourites. It sucks that he went through a down spiral into depression and banning people while streaming.
I suspect part of that patreon money comes from concern over his mental health and/or financial status. I'm pretty sure he's bitched about having no money multiple times since his Patreon opened, and the fact that he's an emotionally unstable drunk/possible alcoholic can't be reassuring for anyone.

Doesn't he also have a heart condition as well?
spoony is the charles foster kane of internet celebrities
Well, I asked for a basic summary of Spoony with the last video in this series, to which people gave me some very insightful replies.
And then Metokur himself decided to one-up them all by making a nearly-40-minute video on Spoony.
I am now thoroughly educated, and strangely motivated.
At the end of the day, I can now say to myself with confidence, at least I don't act like Spoony. :vs:
im excited for a video on brad jones, following that dude's career has been a fucking ride
That's a really depressing downfall. I remember watching his SWAT4 playthrough back in the day.
So Nostalgia Chick is next and Linkara is gonna be one of the last ones. The question now stands; who is next?
Seeing how drastically these early youtubers' careers have changed has got me really wondering how things are going to go for people who are just getting big now. So many crazy dramatic things have happened with people who started their rise 10+ years ago, and it's weirdly fascinating to see who faded away, who stayed strong, who changed, and how they changed.
You get such a strange dichotomy from so many of these big personalities. Like Spoony making videos (or not) while struggling with so many personal issues, Doug Walker trying to juggle his desire to make comedy videos versus the audience's demand for reviews, AVGN just kind of implementing his love for filmmaking into his better-loved series...
I guess this kind of stuff has always happened among entertainers, but most of it stayed pretty secret, whereas people of this generation project their entire personality out to the internet, since that's where they build their life.
Mister Metokur clearly did a lot of research and put a great deal of effort into these videos, but they really could do with some brevity. Something other than that static image would be appreciated too, but I can't really think of what could be done there other than that generic animation like The Internet Historian does, and I do understand how it could be obnoxious to some people.
And man, I never really watched spoony but I feel pretty terrible about the whole thing. Judas is right, it really is a slow, wrenching decline.

The Nostalgia Chick. She had an abortion at a point in her life and she made a movie about dealing with making the decision to do it.
ive heard of this spoony thing, but not in as much detail as this video
i actually find this truly depressing and frankly, i feel pitiful for him. ive never seen someone so out of touch and inside their own warped reality as i have with spoony.
I don't know. I can't really think of much that Brad did that'd be worthy of a video.
There's a lot that can be said about him. Drug abuse, attempted suicide, backstabbing friends, failed relationship after failed relationship, the list goes on and on. But none of these things really affect his online presence, so it's not really any of our business.

In Brad's case, it's shitty things happening to him, not because of him.
Surprised he didn't talk about his medical issues.
Spoony has:
- Depression
- Bi-polar disorder
- A bad heart
- Suffers from bad migraines
- Some other stuff I think I'm forgetting
I honestly felt that a turning point was when he got diagnosed with the heart condition. That was when the first dip in productivity happened, which was understandable at the time. But then, even after he got put on all this medication and he said he was doing better he never recovered. The quality was still there but the videos just took longer to come out.
I also think he severely fractured his foot or leg at one point and that knocked him out for months as well, again, completely understandable.
I actually thought that him getting the dog would be GOOD for him. I thought it would be really good for his mental health and personality. You know kinda like those special dogs for people with PTSD, but no, all it did was give him a reason to shitpost more on twitter and make non-videos with or about Oreo.
I desperately want Spoony to make a comeback. I still sometimes check his site to see if anything has been posted but I know deep down that it ain't gonna happen. He's gone for good and that makes me a little sad.
Say what you want about Linkara but at least he DOES shit and isn't a cunt to his fans, well, most of the time anyway. His main problem is that he just gets annoyed at being asked the same questions a million times.
Also, I've always felt that LordKat is full of himself. If you actually go to his "website" if you can even call it that, it's just a mirror for his stream and that's it. It USED to be an actual site where you could find links to his wiki, past streams, and shows but sometime ago he got rid of EVERYTHING and turned it into the turd it is now. Actually, even his old website was pretty shit but atleast it had content on it. His heyday was back when he WAS on Channel Awesome imo. He's always been a bit of a nobody imo even when he was with CA. Still, he has some of the funniest D&D streams I've seen so there's that I guess. That clip of Spoony crashing LordKat's D&D stream is inexcusable. Spoony takes D&D way to fucking seriously which is something you'll know if you have ever seen any of his D&D videos. Re-watching that D&D session is hard when you know it's coming up, so I just skip it.
That isn't even the whole clip, the whole thing is like 5 minutes long. The context behind it is that LordKat randomly generated the name of a group of NPC's to be from "the Order of The Bee" which the other players found to fucking bizarrely hilarious to the point where it brought the game to a complete halt. Then Spoony joined the Skype call and started berating everyone for laughing at the randomly generated name. It ain't pleasant to watch.
Here's a better summary from TVTropes of all places:
Jerkass: Spoony randomly comes in during the fourth session and insults the players for laughing at LordKaT's use of bee-worshiping soldiers. He goes too far and insults RolloT's weight and the group's intelligence, and accuses them of "shitting on" LordKaT's campaign, despite LordKaT himself laughing at their jokes and playing along. The game is somewhat uncomfortable to watch (or listen to) for a few minutes afterward, and it's clear that everyone is pretty annoyed or angry with Spoony's interruption (even the chat fills up with stuff like "Spoony, calm down" and "Spoony, stop being a jerk" and the like).

And given all that he STILL releases videos.
I miss that old theme song tho and I'm not a fan of the shaved head but meh.

You know you've hit rock bottom when DSP is above you.
Man, Spoony's counter monkey videos are the reason me and some friends tried dnd many years ago. That dnd group created some life long freindships that keep me going.
In a way spoony had a large impact on me. It really sucked to see him fall that far and become a total fucking asshole, but then again maybe he always was an asshole.
This video is depresing to look at. I miss old Spoony
Oh good lord, someone put an ad on Spoony's website via ProjectWonderful that links to this video

Honestly its probably for the better that he wasn't told during his honeymoon

I'm playing D&D later today and if I hadn't watched Counter Monkey I probably wouldn't be saying that.

She was celebrating Spoony's firing with his ex over twitter at the same time, and was super over stepping her boundaries as a fucking PR person

I mean, with how much of a giant cunt Spoony is it doesn't seem that terrible
The dude had it coming, maybe she overstepped as a PR person but celebrating his firing, fuck it. When you act like a dickhead people are happy when you go.
Regarding Counter Monkey, some people seem to think he's bullshitting with his stories to make himself look good.

I don't fully agree. Up until that point he was a little abrasive sure and his fans had a reputation for being toxic as all hell but it wasn't anything that was that bad. To be fired over a fucking tweet a month after it happened because some dingbat dredged it back up seems fucking petty to me. That said, Spoony's true personality shines bright and clear over Twitter. He IS an ass, there's no denying it.
I for one believe a big cause of why they let him go was because his fans had a really nasty habit of going the other CA contributors and shitting all over them all the time. It's also a reason why he started disabling comments on his own videos at the time.
Don't take this as me defending his actions.
I feel like this video is pretty overly negative and frankly really unfair.
I mean yeah Spoony is in a downward spiral and is absolutely acting like an asshole right now, but this video doesn't really explore why. Most telling for me personally being how much the video focused on how much he hates his fans despite them all being supportive and concerned. Because I mean, that's literally just straight up bullshit and very obviously a result of poor research. Spoony has some of the most toxic ass fans you can find and yeah, there's actually a whole bunch of people pretty much just out to fuck with him. Spoony fans are fucking infamous for how insanely toxic they are. Obviously if you're looking at patreon posts those are going to be some of the most supportive ones out there since they're people who went out of their way to give him money and support, but even then there's quite a bit of negativity, which was ignored.
The whole Channel Awesome debacle was retarded. It was an insensitive joke. Black humor generally is. That's not even remotely a big deal at all, blown completely out of proportion. The ""meltdown"" that followed, or at least what was shown in this video, was him sarcastically pointing out how ridiculously overblown the reaction to it was. In my opinion, that series of sarcastic replies was pretty funny. Didn't think that original joke was that great, but it's still just an insensitive joke, and not even half way to 9/11 tier either.
As for the LordKat thing, that's just a massive crock of shit. I mean, not the D&D thing that was legitimately pretty rude, just kinda overblown. The rest of that debacle was a lot of ass and probably deserves it's own thing.
Anyway, I think the video is right that what really caused this all to spiral out of control for Noah were all his pledges though, although again I also feel like the video is putting it into a more malicious light through the implication that he was intending to use them as an excuse not to make more reviews. Frankly that's a ridiculous claim.
I'm gonna preface this by saying, I'm pretty damn sure Spoony has ADD. Probably a bunch of other mental illnesses as well. This has a plethora of implications, but the main things that are relevant here are that it's very, very difficult to concentrate on long term tasks that span days or weeks, let alone months. It's more difficult than it is for most to plan in the long term. It's more difficult to pace yourself and spread out the work. It's more difficult to stick to a schedule and it's more difficult to start and resume work on a project, even if you enjoy working on it.
With that preamble out of the way, I'm also going to say I won't pretend like I know much about Spoony's personal life, but from what I've seen, and with the obvious astrerisk that it's obviously a lot more complicated than this, for me it seems like his downwards spiral mostly boils down to this.
He's afraid of his fans' reaction. Because make no mistake, he cares. He cares a lot. He really, really wants people to like him, both as a person and as a comedian. But he probably feels like he has an obligation to fulfill those pledges even though he really can't possibly complete such large scale projects on his own, and so he delayed. And delayed. And kept delaying. After a while people start to get negative.
Every time he does anything he's faced with a barrage of negativity. Some of it simply because he isn't making the content they want anymore. Some of it because of those unfulfilled pledges which at this point he knows there's really no chance he could ever actually fulfill. Some of it is just outright malicious, often targeting his history of mental illness.
So he ends up isolating himself to places where he can largely ignore how things are falling down around him, causing people's reactions to him to get worse, causing him to isolate himself more, getting more depressed, further weakening his drive to resume his work.
And then all while this is happening, he's getting hooked on livestreams and Twitter. These things are extremely engaging and easy to get into, especially for people with ADD because of their short feedback loop and small time commitment. You might spend hours each day tweeting, checking your twitter, reading comments and so on, but all of these things are all divided into small chunks activity, which for someone with ADD is just far easier to deal with.
Anyway, this post ended up a lot longer than I originally intended. Basically what I want to say is, despite all his numerous mistakes, the sheer amount of hatred directed at Noah is totally undeserved. Frankly I don't think anyone deserves this kind of sheer focused negativity, and it's seriously no wonder to me that he's gone off the deep end with all this crap.
