I am sure all of you are sick of the newspaper headlines such as "New landrover kills polar bears" and "Penguins are dead and it is your fault". Don't worry, I am too: this is not a save the polar bears thread. Recently I had a very interesting debate with my dad about this subject, of whom is a retired cross Atlantic shipper. He drove those things, and he knows them inside out. While we where debating, he said about the ships he used, which are still in use today. Apparently, they use the crudest oil possible. After the oil has been used to make diesel, petrol etc, what they scrape off the bottom of the barrel is "shipping oil". It has a tarry feel to it aparntly, and it is pretty much 100% carbon and other stuff that makes penguins lose close relatives. He gave me a interesting fact: One trans-Atlantic shipping using this crude shipping oil produces more CO2 than all the cars in the world produce in a week. Then put it into perspective that there are literally thousands of these boats shipping daily. I did not believe him, so I asked some of his old co-workers and my big brother (who took over the business) and they all said the same. Google gave the same result as well, as did websites owned by them Eco-Freaks.
So shit, the main reason these polar bears are keeling over feet over head is shipping. Think about it: pretty much all food, toys, appliances and other goods from China, India etc are shipped this way. Now, I am no Eco-freak but this actually scares me a bit, and I feel like doing something about it. What's even worse that in unregulated countries like China, they dump the used or left over oil into the sea: oh shit.

it exists.
deal with it.
Also, apparently it doesn't really effect anyone in the long run that polar bears will die.
rate heart if this sucks anyway.
The real cause is mother nature itself: the temperature raises and lowers over time, it's completely normal.
Get nuclear boats instead.

Typical Facepunch response right here.
Don't believe in global warming. If it exists who cares it won't affect my lifetime.

been proven false by so many scientists, hell we just found out the people who started it (Al Gore) did it for nothing but money and manipulated scientific data to begin with.

I see this sentiment way too often and I hope you're all just trolling me and don't really believe what you're saying.

The current climate changes are caused by humans. There is a global scientific consensus about this. Why do people think they know more about the climate than climate scientists?

It hasn't been "proven false".
In the 1970's, about an equal number of glaciers were advancing and retreating. Today, all of them (except for one I think) are retreating. That's pretty good evidence that it exists IMO. As for the cause of it, who knows? Could be natural, could be human caused.
Wait, and scratch that "pretty good evidence that it exists" part i said before. It does exist. The earth is actually quite cool right now. There has only been ice at the poles five times in all of earth's history, and this is one of them.
The real cause is mother nature itself: the temperature raises and lowers over time, it's completely normal.
They is allot of natural factors but we humans are enhancing the greenhouse effect.

Okay, I'll play this bullshit. Tell me, what have over 200 years of research told us about why the climate changes?

Captain Planet, Climatology PHD
I was reading an article saying how the fix is simplistic, but the real problem lies in who gets to control the fix because whoever does can control the global thermostat.
Sure nature itself has something to do with this global warming. But to say we don't contribute is just plain ignorant.
It was everything. A whole cocktail of things.
it doesn't exist.
I am a dumbass.
fixed
So one trans-atlantic shipping (and noone seems to know how long that takes) with an unknown amount of cargo uses more fuel than all the cars in the world uses in a week.
How much time and fuel would it take to transport the same amount by land- or air-based vehicles?
Those 'facts' in your post could easily be interpreted as 'a vast majority of cargo is transported by sea.'

Y'know I don't think you have much room to talk, considering your account was created in JULY of 2009.
