The sale is expected to net Sony about 4.8 billion yen (just south of 47 million dollars) in profits, even if the press release mentions that the final income from the sale will be released tomorrow. The press release did not specify the reason behind the sale, but it’s possibly a move in live with earlier sales of assets aimed to consolidate the corporation’s overall financial situation.
Fascinating. I wonder what that means for the legacy of exclusivity between Sony and SE?
Final Fantasy 15 exclusive to Wii U

They're sick of Lightening too.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
50/50 - more profits for sony but possibly losing some leeway on say over exclusive titles and content for PS4 such as final fantasy stuff.....etc
50/50 - more profits for sony but possibly losing some leeway on say over exclusive titles and content for PS4 such as final fantasy stuff.....etc
...which can mean higher probability of PC ports and actual PC games so I would say it's a pretty good thing.
50/50 - more profits for sony but possibly losing some leeway on say over exclusive titles and content for PS4 such as final fantasy stuff.....etc
so it's a good thing overall? console exclusives aren't a good thing for the consumer you know
...which can mean higher probability of PC ports and actual PC games so I would say it's a pretty good thing.
So all in all a 100% result. Or at least 80% maybe, if we take into account the hit Squenix took with the stock "extraction" on Sony's part.
so it's a good thing overall? console exclusives aren't a good thing for the consumer you know
No but with Sony losing out on exclusives for they're Console, Microsoft may get them instead and track record show's Sony are far less harsh with Exclusive content than Microsoft, that and i personally Hate XboxOne
Coming to PC: Horrible remakes of all the old classic games with warped visuals and bubbly menus. Square, cut that shit out.
does this mean more Final Fantasy VII Stuff.?
Fascinating. I wonder what that means for the legacy of exclusivity between Sony and SE?
It's been broken more and more lately as things go along, especially with Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy 15 being on both PS4 and Xbox One (technically the MMOs and FF13 count as well for multi-platform, but still) and games like Bravely Default, Theatrhythm, and Dream Drop Distance all being for the 3DS. Even the Vita's only getting the FF10/10-2 remaster alongside PS3, and not any other notable Square-Enix exclusives.

I'd hate to see a bunch of shitty final fantasy facebook/iOS/android payware bullshit (i don't know that the company is but I don't know that they aren't either) edit
Square has been doing that for quite some time already.
oh well then carry on i guess

I don't know if this will hurt square at all, but this had better not mess up Bravely Second.
I don't know if this will hurt square at all, but this had better not mess up Bravely Second.
i seriously doubt it cus that was a squeenix/nintendo thing
Nintendo buys Square-Enix Geno in Smash Bros
kingdom hearts 3 on wii u please if there is a god...
Wait... why?
Wait... why?

The press release did not specify the reason behind the sale, but it’s possibly a move in live with earlier sales of assets aimed to consolidate the corporation’s overall financial situation.
It may not be the reason, I don't know how well they're doing from the 7 million+ sales of the PS4 (since every console sells at a loss, I don't know if they've made enough to profit), but it's the closest we've got so far to anything reasonable.
I hate to say it but I honestly dont blame them, FF hasnt been good for a while. And its not like Square Enix has ever published exclusively for Sony.
kingdom hearts 3 on wii u please if there is a god...
The teaser of the third game looked pretty great, such nice and smooth polygons, great AA and with tons of particles/enemies flocking about, I wouldn't want that bogged down by the Wii U's some what outdated hardware.

Squaresoft was basically nothing but PS1 games during that generation after being Nintendo-primed up until Final Fantasy 6. When Square-Enix happened as a merger, I think Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was one of their first big 'upsets' at a non-Sony system game, wasn't it? After that, they've been all over the place.

Its gotten a little better with the final mixes, but its still pretty annoying.

Chain of Memories got a PS2 remake, the DS games are playable on the 3DS alongside Dream Drop Distance, and Birth By Sleep is the only true outlying game due to being on the PSP. Once the 2.5 HD Remix comes out like you mention, then you'll just need a PS3 and a 3DS. .. and then a PS4 or Xbone for Kingdom Hearts 3. Fuck, that's way too convenient to require three systems for this shit.
