I thought I would make a "Create-a-Battle" thread since the last one sucked.
Rules (if you don't follow these you're post doesn't count):
1. Be creative- there are more ways to victory than shooting someone directly in the head
2. Kill limitations:
a. Maximum of 5 men killed per turn. This only includes troop that are not directly associated with any vehicle; so troops riding in/driving vehicles don't count.
b. Max vehicles destroyed per turn- 2. Destroyed is defined as rendering a vehicle unable to shoot and move.
c. Max vehicles disabled per turn- 2. Disabled is defined as rendering a vehicle unable to move or shoot.
3. If you post a new unit of any type you must briefly describe its strengths/weaknesses.
4. Armies and bases don't just appear out of nowhere. You have to gradually move troops onto the field of battle and construct bases in the same manner, even drawing the construction equipment like bulldozers and scaffolding.
5. ABSOLUTELY NO SUPER WEAPONS/DEFENSES! A superweapon is a weapon that can break the above rules. A super defense is something like a force-field that can absorb indefinite damage.
6. If any fault is found with the above rules, or someone's post, let me know, and I'll consider it.
7. Have fun!

I will be posting the battlefield soon. The battle doesn't start until then.
[editline]25th March 2012[/editline]
Map will probably be up by tomorrow. It will be in a post-apocalyptic nature.

Here is a preview of a portion of the battlefield. Please share your opinions, and remember this is not all of it.
Backstory: In the year 2025, the MichaelSoft-GSC war continued to escalate. Nobody knows who fired the first nuke, but within hours, the whole world was devastated with nuclear fallout. 50 years later, the first people emerge from the shelters (Don't yell at me for copying Fallout, this is a realistic scenario). The GSC and MichaelSoft both had set up shelters, and populated them with their own people. Therefore, when the people emerge, they still hold their old biases, made stronger by the nuclear war.
You know, I could try and make a better looking version of the map.
It looks good and all but it needs a bit of polish.
I'll make my own version too.
I think the kill amounts need to be changed. if we have two big armies fighting each other, its not like they will just kill each other 5 at a time. This also implies we can instakill others, as long as it's only 5 (Or 2 in case of vehicles).
I recommend making the rule that you state what kinds of weapons you used, and show that it has been fired on the targets. The opponent can then use the information he received (Constisting of his knowledge of his units and the weapons fired upon him) to determine the damage done, and show it on the battle.
If no respone to being fired upon is given in enough time, then can then be killed instantly.
The "time" taken should be measured in actual time, rather than declares, since there is usually a lot of activity in the evenings, which can cause many declares to show up. I suggest the time taken to respond should be something like a day.
I also suggest putting a limit on how many units you can have, not a too small one though.
My idea is that units cost points. You start with a specific amount of points, and obtain more the longer you're on the battlefield and the more enemies you kill.
I suggest a cost of units something like this:
Infantry, standard: 1P
Infantry, advanced: 2P
Infantry, elite: 3P
Light vehicles: 3P
Medium vehicles: 5P
Heavy vehicles: 7 P
Experimentals: 10P
Killing units should grant you a fair award of points, and experimental's should not get points for killing something.
(I added this at the end whilst editing my message, when i did not have time to think it over.)
Description of these units
Infantry, standard: Run of the mill infantry, usually equiped with machine guns.
Infantry, advanced: Same as infantry, but usually with better weapons like rocket launchers or armor.
Infantry, elite: Name says it all, tough sons of bitches, can carry the weapons of both other infantry types
and are the only ones who can call in reinforcements mid-battle. (This means that if your forces are not in battle,
they can call in reinforements without an elite.) They are still bested by light vehicles, but only slightly.
Light vehicles: Usually fast vehicles that pack a punch to the unaware, unarmored and/or slow.
These inlude basic vehicles like armed motorcyles to lightly armored buggies. Can carry 1 to 2 units.
Medium vehicles: Your standard militairy vehicles. Includes vehicles like armored humvees to light tanks. 1-5 units.
(Note: These also include light helicopters, primarily used for transport of units. Heli's can carry up to 7 units or one medium/heavy unit, the unit must be carried on the bottom, exposing it to enemy fire.)
Heavy vehicles: Heavily armored beasts, with the firepower to back it up. These range from vehicles like heavy tanks to missile launchers to attack heliopters.
Cannot carry many units, maximum of 3. If an APC or Transport heli, it will not have strong weapons, but can carry up to 10 units, or 2 medium vehicles,
OR one heavy vehicle.
Experimentals: These monsters are the most feared out there. They can be anything you imagine, are big, got heavy armor and are usually very devestating.
These badboys are slow, and when I say slow I mean slow. Cannot carry any units.
And finally, I think the starting amount of points for an army should be 30.
Obviously, no-one brings an entire army in at once, so you first have to send in a recon squad.
You can spend 10 points on a recon squad, and because it would be unfair to have to take an elite with, recon squads can call in re-inforcements at any time.
You are then allowed to spend the remaining 20 points.
ALTERNATIVELY
Some people dont want to bring in an army. If you do not plan to do so, you can only call reinforements when out of battle.
(If no elite is present.)
THERE
Please, if you respond to this, respond to it entirely, and dont just point out the negatives and ignore the rest. I know facepunch has a habit of this.
(Did this on another PC that didn't have a spellchecker, pardon me if I made some typos.)
I can't fully respond now because I'm on my Ipod at school. I just want to ask, do you like the map so far? How big should it be?

Suprise!
Fixed up the map a bit.
Not done yet, but thoughts?

Or we could use the rule of common sense, and when that fails the community can decide on the best option. I dislike set of rules for things like this since they can never account for every situation.
While common sense works just as well, I like that point system.
I know some people on this section of the forum dont like using common sense anyway, so it'll be a nice adition.
Besides, it allows for a good amount of units and nice rules.
I like my version of the map better. Those corners were meant to be straight, and the brick pattern on the wall helps you understand that it's an old building, not just some rocks. Besides, I have an updated version that is twice as long as that, with hills.

Personally, I think that Rapist's version looks better. I may not post, but I follow a few of these threads.
Okay. How about when I post my final version, we can merge the best elements of both.

Here, I've done more.
And I cant seem to get the car to look right.
Also, yes, post your final version.
Mind posting your thought on the rules I suggested max?
Edit: Also, I think you should've shown us that draft of the rules, so we could've helped you with them.
I'm going to bed now.
Dont start anything without me. :v:

cant post more now sorry
I think the rules are way too restricting and assume that everybody has a unit for every situation which simply isn't the case. I think if people just used a little common sense and didn't try to 1'up eachother every time they get attacked then it could work. I mean if one squad gets fired upon, you shouldnt call in a batallion of helicopters the next turn - and should at least let a few of them die.
I mean thats how normal picture wars works anyway but whatever floats your boat.
Btw, when are we going to start?

Is this a reply to the ones I suggested, the ones in place, or both of them?
Also, yeah. I think common sense should be used as well, but I still think the point system should be implemented, so that no giant army can come out at any time. I could care less if the rest of the rules I suggested are denied.
Also: I'm under the impression we can start already.

Maybe more of a unit limit instead of a points system, with general common sense things like don't bring in 5 tanks because it said the starting unit count was 5. Maybe start with 5 or so people and evolve from there with maybe a transport vehicle?
Go ahead and start. I guess the common sense rules will work, if someone has a problem with somebody's move, we can put it to a vote.

The 4 lost soldiers wander into the building, completely oblivious to the bomb shelter lurking beneath them. Tied up to a supporting beam is a cloaked man, suspected of being an enemy soldier.
The two soldiers start to bicker with eachother, another keeps look out - and a ginger gentleman who appears to be a man in power savours his cigarette.
"What the hell do we do Josh?!"
"What do you mean, how the hell should I know?!"
"It was your idea to leave the damn shelter! The first thing we find is a damn terrorist waiting to murder us and this VIP, I mean what is he even doing here?!"
"Sarge?"
"Yeah! A damn nuclear wasteland is no place for a guy like.. him."
"Look, we 'gotta make the best of a good situation! Got any contact with HQ yet?"
"Nope, we need a better signa-"
The soldier is interrupted by the foreign shouts of the tied up man, who seems honestly desperate and scared - probably confused by the nuclear war. Terrorism had nothing to do with it now, now it was just survival.
What happened to my updated version of the battlefield?

A group of GTU soldiers beam onto the planets surface. It is a small recon force.
(BTW I'm not using the unit cost rules and what not. If we just play responsibly and don't, as was stated, "always try to one up each other" then we shall be good)
The sergeant orders his men to take cover behind the old tank and orders one of his troops to take point and scan the area.

The undefined squad of three advances
the leader wearing the ranger hat raises the binoculars.
"Damn it! Intel said this area was clear!"
"All right men were going in for a closer look, lets do this fast and quiet move when no one is looking and stick to cover!"
By the way guys, I'm working on a jungle-type map for when you decide to nuke things to hell again :v:.

The soldiers continue to bicker until they are interrupted by a short buzz through their headsets and the worried shouts of the man.
"Shit. We have multiple contacts, 1 or 2 soldiers approximately half a kilometre from here and a squad by the wrecked tank. Open fire?"
"No! Do not open fire! I repeat, do not open fire!"
The watchman obeys begrudgingly and drops to a knee, letting his comrades see for themselves. Even though they were pretty much now on their own, they carried habbits over from their past lives in the military - resulting in the very official sounding chatter on the radio.
The ginger man grabs the man by the knee and pulls - stretching the mans arms, before holding a revolver to his chest.
"You listen to me and you listen good you son ova' bitch! I want answers. NOW. Who launched the nukes, you guys never even had access to radioactive material - let alone warheads."
"العربية dimūqrāṭīyyah, širkah!"
"I don't speak arabic damnit!"

Its good practice to wait for two other declares before posting again, electro.
Grrr, can someone give me some tips on making ~250 pixel ish high rainforest trees? Or any trees for that matter.
Edit: Also, want to see the map? (Still WIP, no trees, shitty grass, and needs more stuff added to it)
Sure, show us.
Also I'm having trouble getting a good gun holding pose for my generic military trooper.
It somehow ended up looking fantastic on my elite/experimental guy, but I cant make it look as good on the generic trooper.

As you can see, still very much a WIP. I need to add trees, better grass and more diversity in landscape, but hey, it's a start.
