The internet and hipsters - General

I'm honestly confused about all of the hatred toward hipsters on the internet (particularly right here on Facepunch). I live in Melbourne AKA Hipster capital of the southern hemisphere and the hipsters that I know don't exhibit all that many qualities that everyone on the internet attributes to them. It makes me wonder if the people that criticise them have ever actually had a decent conversation with one. I love metal (favourite band is Ensiferum), I love video games, I don't wear glasses or skinny jeans (admittedly I do wear chucks), I don't have a blog, do not own (or want) a Mac or an iPhone, I'm no artist, hate over-the-top political correctness and am not interested in theatre (been to one play in my life. Went to it for my drama class. I guess it was a decent play). So after you've rated me dumb (75% will do this after reading the first line of the OP) can you please just explain to me why you all hate hipsters so much?

I have hipster tendencies, but I'm not really a full blown hipster. Some people (hipster or not) take it waaay too seriously though.

Because they think they're oh so cool and ironic (which is one of their favorite words or something) and generally think they're better than anyone else. Plus it's fun to make fun of people who spend so much money to look poor.

They listen to shit music, they have a blog, they act "tech savvy" and think buying a mac is "thinking different".

I just noticed today that I've been doing pretty hipster stuff lately. I have a messenger bag, wear glasses, converse, casual pants, and a button up shirt. I'm pretty ashamed.

Whats wrong with wearing jeans and a shirt? NOTHING I tell you. Also skinny jeans make it easier for people to kick you in the balls.

Why are glasses suddenly hipster? I chose my big thick black nerd specs because of Gordon Freeman, and Fallout 3...not because of some stupid ass trend... And god damnit! I like my baggy jeans....
