The two fan theories I prefer about aladdin is that the merchant at the beginning is actually the genie after he's been freed, and that the whole thing is actually set in a post apocalyptic future, hence the pop culture references.

But that's weird because in the Hercules cartoon he actually meets Aladdin.

well they had their own show on disney for a while
almost every original disney film had a show that followed the antics of the protagonists
hercules and aladdin were pretty popular and because they were in the same relative time period, they interacted in the episode above

both only ran for about a year, but the aladdin one came before the hercules one by about 3 years if i remember correctly
they werent running at the same time, but the hercules episode brought the show back for just one instance
the aladdin one wasnt as popular because there werent very many things to watch
it was pretty much "deal with some evil thieves"

Yeah, I was really surprised when I found out about it, too.
-Another not-so-well-known bit on Aladdin, there was a video game called "Aladdin: Nasira's Revenge" that continued the story. Jafar's sister is pissed off at Aladdin and tries to revive Jafar.
