More people need to watch this channel, he reviews some times the most interesting weapons. he did the palm protectors a month or so ago
Found this while researching a project. I think I'm right when i say its the first gun to load via magazine, although I could be totally wrong. An interesting piece of mechanics none the less. I love forgotten weapons, lots of unique and interesting firearms on that channel. The rifle version looks kinda steampunky. The 2-gun matches they do are really cool too, the Mosin/Nagant revolver vs Trapdoor carbine/Single action army is especially great https://www.full30.com/video/219a3090c409f10e5e06c4d0ef70df62 I'm really glad they started putting the InRange episodes out on full30 instead of having a paywall
Is that first pistol the one in RDR? Shame they didn't implement the shotgun barrel.

Always wanted a LeMat, they're super expensive though. Would love to come up with a cartridge conversion cylinder for it, they never made one for the LeMat like they did for all the Colt and Remington revolvers.
He should do a video of that one handgun with a weirdly placed magazine that was designed so people who were used by revolvers wouldn't unload the mag by mistake, if he hasn't already.
When there's talk about guns, i prefer hickok45 better cause he actually shoots the guns.
When there's talk about guns, i prefer hickok45 better cause he actually shoots the guns.
Forgotten Weapons fires them too, these were just part of an auction and they weren't allowed to fire them, especially since these are BP guns. BP guns get absolutely filthy when fired and need special care to prevent them from rusting.
damn that one is ugly ass gun
These old weapons are gorgeous and all but something's always bothered me about them- they look like cheap pewter. Why is that?
These old weapons are gorgeous and all but something's always bothered me about them- they look like cheap pewter. Why is that?
The metal in old weapons is likely not particularly pure. Additionally, the materials used to make the metal alloy has evolved over the years to prevent rust, reduce weight, and to increase strength.
who the fuck was crazy enough to have a revolver be capable of firing shotgun shells [editline]29th November 2014[/editline]
Is that first pistol the one in RDR? Shame they didn't implement the shotgun barrel.
the starting revolver they gave you was a colt 1873 single action army revolver.
who the fuck was crazy enough to have a revolver be capable of firing shotgun shells
A Frenchman by the name of Jean Alexandre Francois LeMat. Also more recently Taurus and Smith and Wesson have been making dedicated shotshell revolvers in .410.
The metal in old weapons is likely not particularly pure. Additionally, the materials used to make the metal alloy has evolved over the years to prevent rust, reduce weight, and to increase strength.
Actually the pewter look is due to the age, the original finish and once crisp edges have mostly worn off. When new they would have been the deep blue/black you're used to seeing. The metal used in these guns is actually very good, even though they're more than 100 years old they're safe to fire so long as they're in good condition. Even really old guns, some several hundred years old can be safe to fire as long as they've still got a clean breech. I once got to fire an original Spanish made Arquebus made sometime around the early 1400s, and you'd be surprised how many muskets out there use barrels that were made in the 1600s yet saw continuous use through the 1800s when placed in a new stock with a new lock. They are 100% Black Powder ONLY though, and any old guns designed to fire smokeless cartridges need to use a reduced charge as well as modern powder has more power in the same amount of volume as powder made in say 1920. You can find a lot of broken .22LR guns for example because people try to fire modern cartridges out of them and it breaks the smaller parts in them, though you mostly see that in self-loading guns which are picky about what you fire out of them anyway. That said they didn't have access to a lot of the steel alloys we have today, but carbon steel isn't something to laugh at either, a lot of people still swear by the stuff for applications where high strength and wear resistance is needed, I've got a few carbon steel chisels I use to carve and engrave steel. A lot of older guns were made of wrought iron simply because it handles the pressure of a black powder charge very well.
A Frenchman by the name of Jean Alexandre Francois LeMat. Also more recently Taurus and Smith and Wesson have been making dedicated shotshell revolvers in .410.
Modern revolvers tend to fire shot shells only as a bonus, if a pistol/revolver is designed to fire a shot shell by default, it is by definition a shotgun and shotguns must have a barrel over 18" long to be legal to own without registering it to the Federal Government, which means a $200 tax must be paid on top of the retail price for the gun, so nobody wants to buy them, same reason you don't typically see suppressors for sale in gun shops, they retail for ~$80 but require the extra $200 on top of that to be legal. But they're designed to use centerfire cartridges and the .410 shells just happen to work in them. The LeMat on the other hand uses a muzzleloading barrel (With the exception of the cartridge versions, which are exempt from the above restrictions since they are considered antiques) and is not restricted, this also means brand new reproductions can and are made for sale today, they're just very expensive for a black powder revolver.

This is still one of my favorite things he's shown:

This is of a really odd .22 belgian single action pocket pistol that is honestly is kinda shit, but interesting.
I really want to see how that palm protector shoots.
The revolver looks better.
Thought I'd bring this up here in this Forgotten Weapons thread, being that I don't know of a way to embed the video, and therefore not really worth its own. https://www.full30.com/video/82efb579fd3c93d177205966ef3d3c9d This right here is rifle caliber ammo for the Kar 98k or Mosin 91/30, with an HE charge built inside (exploding ammo), used by German and Russian snipers in the eastern front.
Is that first pistol the one in RDR?
