Milton Keynes' famous concrete cows, vandalised last Tuesday night, will remain as skeletons until after Halloween.
The Parks Trust, the charity which maintains the three cows and calves in Bancroft, has condemned the vandals, estimating repairs will cost £2,000.

But it is holding off on their restoration after "hundreds" sent messages approving of the "makeover".
A spokesperson said: "We're grateful people care so much about the cows."
Designed by artist Liz Leyh, the cows were made in 1978 as a leaving present from the Milton Keynes Development Corporation - which oversaw the building of the "new town".
Since they arrived they have been stolen, beheaded, painted pink and had pyjamas and "BSE" painted on them.
Trust chief executive David Foster said: "Hundreds of people across Milton Keynes have sent messages to say that they approve of the concrete cows' makeover and would like to keep the skeletal versions.
"As a result we've decided to keep the cows as they currently are and then to restore them to the artist Liz Leyh's original vision after Halloween.
"The public has also offered to help with restoring them and we're grateful that people care so much about the cows."
The trust, which has reported the damage to Thames Valley Police, also said the cows might have to be moved in the long term but it was "looking at options" for their restoration.
Carys Underwood from the tourism promoters Destination Milton Keynes said the "right decision" had been made.
"We would never condone any vandalism but having seen these close up the person who has done this has really thought about this and really taken a lot of care and they do look amazing," she said.
"From the positive feedback the people of Milton Keynes have given on social media sites, they have really taken them to their hearts and want them to stay like this."

The original cowshttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-19948396
really looks cool imo, infact i'd rather have that then what looks like cows in the original pictures
The original statues look brain damaged.
Also, skellytons are badass. I reckon they should convince the authorities to keep them like that on the basis of "it's a commentary on the mass rearing of cattle for food" or something artsy-fartsy like that.
I thought that's what cows always look like.
Imagine if the vandals heard this and painted them back.
I was half expecting them to all have the fresco jesus face.
It would be cool if this was the start of a new trend in repainting the cows for different occasions, like a real-world Google logo.

The interesting thing about this, in my opinion, is that both are cases of vandalism. Both are cases where the new appearance of the art grabbed the public's attention. Yet only one of these actually improved the appearance of the original work, not to mention was timely(skeleton/Halloween time).
2spooky4me
i demand they be removed
Their vandalised look reminds me of rauisuchians and therapsid reptiles

That just makes this 100% more cool
"Since they arrived they have been stolen, beheaded, painted pink and had pyjamas and "BSE" painted on them."
Poor cows :c
Hey i live in milton keynes.
The only time i ever seen news about this town outside of our newspaper is about those fucking cows.
They look way cooler as skeletons, when i went and saw them before they all had derped eyes.
I hate it when Germanic tribesmen repaint shit in my town.

Completely off topic, but this reminded me of something.
There was actually this one tunnel out in Oregon that was entirely ceramic on the inside. Obviously you ended up with a ton of soot, rubber, and other crud building up in it. The city would clean it out a few times a year, but the graffiti there was rather unusual.
To create graffiti the local artists would go in with a bucket of soap water and a mop and clean the tunnel in creative patterns.

Speaking of this, there used to be a retired couple down the road that had some ceramic cows that they had up on their corner lot. Every holiday they would put different outfits on them, ranging from elves to santa, they even dressed them up before they moved and had a sign for it. I wish they were still here or there was some more things like it. You are correct, and it is genius!
These vandals should be captured and given a fine.
In time for Halloween, I say keep it.

Or worse, an arts degree.

A landmark near me called White Nancy does exactly that. This year it's had Olympic rings, a crown for the jubilee and probably a lot more I'm not aware of. I'm not sure if its a council thing or just vandals (likely both) but the thing is constantly being repainted.
I hate how authorities label every act of unapproved art "vandalism"
If a dude covers a wall in a colourful, beautifully designed mural, "Hurp durp vadurliserm, white wash the fucker!"
For fuck sake, if someone scrawls a nickname, a dick and "David is a bum-slut" on a wall in permanent marker, then feel free to paint over it. But if someone devotes hours to a piece that is aesthetically pleasing, just leave it be.

That's up to the owner. If they don't want it there, they have the right to remove it. It is their property.
those are some goofy ass fucking cows
estimating repairs will cost £2,000.
wtf, you need a few cans of spraypaint and half an hour to "repair" them
If they were smart they'd charge people a 'donation' fee for the right to paint the cows and the cows would stay that way for the month. Then the next donor could paint the cows. That way, the cows are always freshly painted, they make money, AND the artists in the community could use the cows as an outlet for their creativity.

They have to hire an artist to repaint the derp eyes.
You just need some carefully placed paper and a bucket of white paint
The previous designs look fucking retarded lol
I bet PETA did this.
