A line of intense thunderstorms toppled trees and cut power to about 200,000 PECO customers in the region Tuesday afternoon.
The storm also halted service on all SEPTA regional rail lines due to severe weather conditions and signal problems.
Knocking out power along the Patco High Speed Line, the storm stranded homeward-bound commuters on the train line between Philadelphia and South Jersey.
Power outages to PSE&G customers in towns surrounding Cherry Hill also were reported.
The storm cut a swath through Deptford, New Jersey, pulling off tree limbs and tearing down powerlines.
In Pennsylvania, the outages were concentrated in Chester and Delaware counties.

PECO reported more than 200,000 Philadelphia-area customers without power. At this time, PSE&G is reporting about 85,865 customers without power due to this evening's severe thunderstorm. Atlantic City Electric crews are out assessing damage and making repairs after severe storms moved through the region and left more than 250,000 customers without power Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Chester County and severe thunderstorm and flood warnings elsewhere. A 71 mph wind gust was recorded at Philadelphia International Airport.
Holy shit this storm was scary, literally went form the most pleasant day in the world with blue skies as far as the eye can see to the storm of the century with 4 tornado warnings all under an hour.
ABC news was a bitch, kept saying how there were tornado warnings in the region but wouldn't say WHERE in the region.
Yeah, something big with 60 mph+ winds just blew over me a couple hours ago here in Virginia. Doesnt seem like it's slowing down much.
Im in Chester county and it really wasn't all that bad. Weird thing is, a town not even half a mile away got ground circulation and tons of damage whIle we were untouched. Really weird storm. Basically a devolved derecho, which is what it was earlier. Hopefully our shore house is still intact though, Atlantic county got hit really hard apparently
I hope Rickety Cricket didn't raid the bunker again...
My whole neighborhood is out of power. We've got a little generator and we're supposed to get back online tomorrow morning. It's not too bad over here so I just assumed this was a regular old thunderstorm, and didn't realize it hit so hard. We've got friends in Coatseville who said a there was a tornado on their street.
This has got to be the 4th or 5th year in a row we've completely lost electricity, it's getting on my nerves.
There were supposedly two tornadoes, one in Swedesboro and another in Deptford (both in NJ)
The Deptford Mall has been badly damaged, not sure if it was from the supposed tornado or just general storm damage. Still, that's like the most major mall in the region for NJ, probably going to be a massive hit to the local economy.
Just blew by me. We didn't get hit hard. Heard about the tornado over my pager.
I wouldn't doubt there were strong winds in Deptford, this car got flipped over during the storm somehow

Connecticut was hit somewhat as well. Trees down everywhere by me here
Anyone on the east coast get good pictures of the sky?

If you saw it you know what I'm talking about.

A rare sight, it was VERY orange outside.
I havent heard from my family over in NJ for over 7 hours :x I'm a little worried.
storm was really weak around where I live other than a couple big lighting strikes but the sky was ridiculously yellow around 8:30 for awhile like that image above

A rare sight, it was VERY orange outside.
yes, from where I was it was very dark and forboding on one side yet golden with very wispy like clouds on the other, it was very picturesque and beautiful looking which was a relief after all the destruction that was caused
1:24 AM and power is still off, hopefully will be back up soon though I'm sure they're working as fast as they can
It's funny, every little storm that comes through here ends up knocking out our power, but during the storm where I'm completely unable to sleep because it's not going 30 seconds without a scarily close thunder crack I don't think we lost power once.

My cell service is down and has been for about 8 hours now, that along with landlines going down from the storm may just have cut communication off, that's all.

FLYING NIMBUS!
I actually had some friends in Pennsylvania posting pictures of it as they blew in, saying things like "It's finally here! :D".
If only they knew...
I got a few pictures of that yellow sky. I heard on the radio it had something to do with a solar flare.
It's called a sunset.
Yeah I'm near the line between Montgomery and Delaware, it was nothing but lightning here
It's called a sunset.
No, it was different than a usual sunset. Everything looked like a pretentious sepia toned instagram, even hours before dusk.
It's called a sunset.
Not entirely. They're mammatus clouds. A large part of the sky being orange is due to this. The sun sets every day but it NEVER looks like this unless the clouds are involved

Anyone in the Delaware Valley area, particularly in New Jersey, have cell service?
I have Verizon, it's still down.
Yep, all our phones shot up a "TORNADO IMMINENT" warning, so we hung out by our basement entrance for a while, but no real damage happened. Rain was a bitch, though, and the lightning got pretty fierce; news recorded 430 strikes in fifteen minutes, and I saw an actual bolt at one point, and it was close enough to completely white out my vision for a moment. Our wireless was intermittent for a while afterward as well. No tornado, but the winds got fierce enough to tear some stuff up.
My old hometown of Somerdale was completely without power, but came back on late last night; my sister's friend who still lives there was bugging her all night about it. Another friend of hers mailed her a pic of a branch embedded in his bedroom ceiling.
But yeah, Deptford Mall got tore the frig up. I wonder how the old Echelon in Vorhees is doing...

Hah, we were just talking about that! There was a "Verizon coverage" map shown for the Delaware Valley that's all almost completely red. We run Virgin and Cricket and at least Virgin was out as well, although their service already sucks by default.
man that orange sky was cool as hell. I'm shocked my work didn't lose power, but then again far northeast philly and lower bucks didn't get slammed that hard.
"The Storm of the Century" if you will?
Christ, that was horrible. One moment the news station started spitting out warnings about severe storms and flooding and everything went black. Coatesville, Chester County has it's own power station, so when everyone else goes kaput, they're usually ok.
And now I feel like an utter prick for wishing for rain. Here in South Carolina/Georgia we've gotten very little rain and ultra-high temps for the past two-three weeks. Hope everyone living further up the coast stays safe.

Ditto, I live in Phoenixville and we had power the entire night.
"The Storm of the Century" if you will?
Definitely the freakest storm of the century.
Literally was just an hour between blue skies, to 70 mph winds and pouring rain back to blue skies again.
