I feel like watching this but I actually want to play Gone Home and I'm afraid of spoilers :(
There are no spoilers in the video and I really liked Gone Home but damn I'll always love the Best Gamers more. Also, gone home spoiler [sp] Anyone else find it weird that the people who usually rush through the game to criticise it never find any of the hidden stuff and the story that's 400x more interesting then the one with your sisters? (you know the abuse and stuff)[/sp]
gone home is just a visual novel in disguise 0/3 hardcore
Fixed
There are no spoilers in the video and I really liked Gone Home but damn I'll always love the Best Gamers more.
There was one pretty big spoiler [sp]"your gay sister"[/sp] if anyone is actually interested in the game just wait for it to drop $10 or less, it's a really good game that I don't regret buying but it is pricy.
Is it really 1 hour of gameplay? Because if it is, the price is really too high for this game.
Is it really 1 hour of gameplay? Because if it is, the price is really too high for this game.
took me roughly an hour forty-five price is definitely too high
Is it really 1 hour of gameplay? Because if it is, the price is really too high for this game.
You can beat the game under a minute actually, but yeah it's about an hour or two's worth of content. Would've done a lot better if it was $5
If you only got an hour out of the game you're playing it wrong [sp]god damn scrubs[/sp]
Such a wonderful and emotional experience.
i heards its really sweet and cute, just get it when its on a sale for like $5<
this game is alright by me but it's not worth $20 for the hour-long experience, i'm much better off paying $10 for a two hour movie that i'll enjoy more the critical acclaim of the game isnt really warranted imo, it's not ~super great~ it's just different, and by different i mean mind-numbingly banal with a story that you gradually piece together
Sounds like Dear Esther, which was terrible.
Sounds like Dear Esther, which was terrible.
It's not like Dear Esther. Dear Esther is a non-game, you hold W and have a story narrated to you while looking at scenery. Gone home uses environmental storytelling to force the player to advance the story by looking for (and finding) clues. The actual narrated part of the story is only one part of it, almost every single item in the environment tells you something about the people in the story and their lives. Dear Esther stuffs the story down your throat as you hold the W key, Gone Home makes you work for your story and it makes all the difference. $20 is still ridiculous though. Edit: I was basically paraphrasing this review, but he says it way better than I can.

The Walking Dead was criticised because it only had QTEs and basic puzzle solving for gameplay, Heavy Rain got it even worse, To the Moon got marked down quite a bit because it had lacking gameplay. The most you can change anything in gone home is throwing objects around or unlocking doors making it more of a reactive game than an interactive one. A lot of games have the problem of a disconnect between their story and gameplay but this isn't a creative form of gameplay, it's a creative form of storytelling while removing the gameplay. Removing the game part of a video game is a little odd, like calling a haunted house a game because you can move around in it. It might work as an experiment, but it's really not much of a game, just does a slightly better job telling the story than Dear Esther's monologues.
if you could like, go into a house and do all this cool shit but then when you're finished, go outside and start shooting people in the dick, then it might be a pretty fun game. but when you make shit like this for ~art value~, you essentially strip it of all gameplay storytelling is not a substitute for good game mechanics or actual gameplay

I quite like how open gone home could be. Haven't played it myself though. Edit: I do think the price is too high. Should be around maybe 7 dollars.
