This game completely sucked compared to the original.
Don't know if you can convince me it is any better.

people bitch about the new games but they forget that il2 is supposed to be a ww2 plane sim not the arcadey kind of stuff people played with il2 1946. COD focused much more on the sim parts and had just awful optimizations which they fixed later
yeah, the shitty initial release fucked it up in the long run.
I only got this because the limited special edition was 8 bucks on amazon. Included a map on a piece of clothe. A MAP ON A PIECE OF CLOTHE!
How's Battle for Stalingrad compared to this?

How is 1946 arcadey?

I never thought it was Arcadey. 1946 included Il2, Pacific Fighters, Forgotten Battles, Aces, they were all great. Nothing beat watching people not know how to lock their tailwheel before trying to take off from a carrier and just steering off the side
I never locked my tail wheel and was always fine on carrier takeoffs. :v:
IL2 CoD is pretty much the DCS of the IL2 series, it has extremely complicated engine management and clickable cockpit and all that stuff, but it has quite limited content due to this focus on realism. I prefer CoD for the simulation and 1946 for screwing around with the gazillion planes it has.
1946 being arcadey..... Got some flight sim purists over here!
But in all seriousness, 1946>CoD any day. Even if you can't fly planes for shit, the damage modeling in 1946 is infinitely enjoyable to toy around with.

TF CoD>vanilla Cod any day, leaving (the masterpiece) 46 out of it..
It might have less planes but that's why it's called Cliffs of Dover and makes up for it in historical accuracy almost on par with DCS, also TF stepped up the damage modelling pretty well I'd say.
The Messerschmitts 20mms pack a fine punch and comes with a nice variety of ammo choices but the same can be said with the Spitfire's .303s!
If you already own CoD, give TF a chance.
For 2015 they are planning to release new airframes, missions, maps and assets.
It's the multiplayer that always does it for me with these kind of games, while I get weird stutters or sometimes even fps lag with 20/30 players on BoS I get a steady fps and 0 lag on ATAGs 100 player server..
Their missions feature things like taking out trains, artillery positions, airfields and shipping in a 3 hour timeframe.
Here's an update they posted in December, showing mostly new visual effects.. but still.

Hope to see some of you in the air!

It has an absolutely awful business model.
So is Cliffs of Dover actually playable now?
When I first played it, it was broken as fuck, I tried it again after they 're-made' the engine or modified it but it ran like shit and looked worse, I still have it and feel it was a bitter dissapointment and a waste of money but if it actually works like it should've now..I may reinstall and try it out.

Awwww, you were so nice about it I might just reinstall and so that. (For Reals)
Eh? I don't think anyone thought il2 1946 was arcadey. I have fond memories of flying slowly with 2nd47 at 50m to try and make him stall and crash, since that was a more viable tactic than trying to fucking turn in my fw 190 a8 mistel w/ gunpods.
All I remember is hearing it was really unoptimized, lacked a lot of content, and was kind of expensive so I held back on buying it.
Those were the days :')
Weren't there loads of full-on realistic cockpit-only servers on IL2 1946?
Here's the thread on how to get started by the way.
Honestly, I really want Cliffs of Dover for an even more realistic experience than 1946 is, but I want to know if there are new mechanics, a better/worse damage model, or less floaty movement. Anybody know some more on this?
i miss flying in sims. i want to again desperately but my trackIR, x52, and rudder pedals all broke in one weekend.
Beaufighter coming to CloD!
