While many were hoping for some footage from Jurassic World to close out the Legendary Pictures panel at Comic-Con today, instead the audience was treated to a surprise teaser trailer for a project that we hadn't heard of at all before. Now that Legendary has successfully brought Godzilla back to the big screen in a successful way, their new home at Universal Pictures wants to use their power to inject new life into King Kong. The teaser shown soared through choppy waters and to a rainy island while an ominous voiceover alluded to a dark, mysterious place. And that's when the monstrous ape appears, roaring and thumping his chest before the title Skull Island appears. So what the hell is this surprise at Legendary?
The film is slated for release on November 6th. 2016.
If it's anything like Peter Jackson's rendition of Skull Island, it's fucking horrifying and full of terror
So it's a remake of a remake of King Kong?
Or is it a sequel to Jackson's movie. Because honestly I liked Jackson's remake, it was just too fucking long.

I have no clue. What if it's a prequel?

My chief complaint about 2005 King Kong was that it took a full hour for anything to actually happen.

The source said it's not tied to Jackson's King Kong in 2005.

I haven't watched the movie but i sure damn loved the video game of King Kong, that was such a fantastic game.
I'm hoping for some really terrifying insect monstrosities, like the ones seen in KK 2005. Of course, more Vastatosaurus Rex action would also be great to see.
This is going to lead up to a King Kong Vs. Godzilla remake, isn't it? :v:

Thing is though:
Kong - Roughly 35' (10m)
Godzilla 2014 - Roughly 315' (96m)
Unless we pull a Toho and turbosize Kong :v:

Well I guess instead of King Kong, he could fight some kind of Robo-Kong instead, it's not like him not fighting a robo version of something eventually.

MechaniKong
Tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a King Kong VS Godzilla remake.
I read that as "Legendary Reveals Kim Jong Project 'Skull Island'"
I thought he was making some sort of island to stickk all of NKs citizens on
Kong v Godzilla fucking confirmed, I've been hoping for this since I saw Godzilla earlier this year
Godzilla vs King Kong vs Kaiju vs Jeagers
For some reason I thought they were actually going to build something on an island and it could be like a tourist thing when I clicked on this thread, so naturally I was really excited. You know, like Jurassic Park was, except real. Then months from now shit would get real, and some people would get eaten, and the short and long of all this is I'd finally get to play Dwarf Fortress in real life.
Except they're not doing any of that and I'm horribly disappointed. :l
I'm not really sure how to feel. I love Peter Jackson's take on King Kong, and while I can definitely see room for improvement on it, another one this soon? Man.
I thought the Peter Jackson one had a really good atmosphere up until the girl got taken by King Kong, it went downhill from there.

Same with the first die hard, it was like 45 - 60 minutes until the Germans came
Oh man, Skull Island is such an amazing concept. Jackson's rendition was bloody fucking amazing. I got the World of Kong book, which is Weta's amazing concept art book but in a bestiary nature guide format, what an engrossing and amazing world.

Man I remember some intense scenes from this film, but I also remember being pissed off because I couldn't see the film till the end for some reason.

Although, if it wasn't PG-15, that scene could be something else..

I don't understand why they even bothered with this scene since there was no gore at all. The impact would have been so much more if only the they went all in.

But that was in the original 1933 script. Parts of it i think were even filmed but it was cut and the footage lost since it was too horrifying for audience back then.

Like I said right above you, it's not for 'mature' audiences. It's rated PG-15..

But yes I hear you, that scene could have maybe even benefited from more gore, mostly blood I guess. It even had that tireless/hopeless hacking&slashing feel to it which is intense, but no gore whatsoever.

I thought the director left it out because it was ultimately pointless and made the movie drag on too long.
Which is probably one (or the main) reason Peter Jackson put it in his movie.

Yeah but what if they make King Kong a bit bigger in this new movie? He's a gorilla so if he was versatile enough he could fuck Godzilla's shit up I reckon.
I would pay good money to see a gritty Godzilla v Kong movie.
