Despite the obvious Verizon plug, I still think this is pretty cool
That is fucking crazy
how?
Holy crap that is the most impressive mod I have ever seen.
It's really unbelievable what can be done to this game
people still play minecraft?

Someone will always ask this
And the answer will always be yes
people still play minecraft?
No, not at all, that's why its being ported to everything ever, and had MS bought it for $2.5Billion
how?
looks like its just downscaling everything and matching the colors of the blocks to closely represent what the screen should look like
how?
I have no idea what type of coding magic they used to sync up a phone app to a minecraft server and get a mod to connect to external servers and load them like that, but the video app looks like it gets the feedback, and then just splits it into different zones, takes the average color of that zone, and places the closest colored block in its place, its the exact same scenario with the web browser.
This is actually really cool, hopefully Verizon releases the source code for it

Its all open sourced already:

Imagine having this in call of duty
Literally calling someones mom and tell her shes a toe-licking slutnugget while she looks at a cod character spinning in circles.
people still play minecraft?
Are you seriously this disconnected?
Minecraft is one of the worlds most popular games, period. Why would people suddenly stop playing it?
My first thought after watching this is what would porn be like.
people still play minecraft?
Well it didn't become shit.
How the fuck is this even possible, this is some freaky shit right here.
[editline]2nd December 2015[/editline]
Too bad it's not a redstone thing, it's considerably less amazing though knowing that its just a mod/plugin but still pretty impressive.
That is seriously incredible.

Im willing to bet most of the functionality is an external phone emulator thats screen gets translated into the game or something along a similar concept.

"I don't like thing" is usually the answer to those kinds of posts.

There wouldn't even be enough cells active for the redstone to properly work.
Well it didn't become shit.
yeah it did
According to the webpage for it, SethBling did not actually make it, Verizon themselves did. Probably viral advertising or something.
Still very cool regardless, and the source code is freely available too, so that's also nice.
Don't really need the webpage for that. He said in the video that Verizon did all the work and that he just gave a few ideas about functionality.
Still very cool, though.
What is this monstrosity
People kinda forget just how flexible java is as a coding language, I wouldn't say this is a hard concept because librarys to link java applications to cell networks have been around for ages. It was just a case of adapting and making the renderer for the most part.
I mean, you could emulate entire computer systems in Garry's Mod, in 2006.
I'm really not that impressed I guess, since with Java you'd always be able to do these things
It never ceases to amaze me what people manage to use Minecraft for. I would never have thought anything like this would even be possible, back when I used to play. The people who built this kind of stuff have got some serious talent..

When I first read the thread title I thought it was going to be similar to those really huge redstone-powered computers, and I was wondering how you'd even be able to fit enough stuff in there. This, though, is still also very cool. It's probably quite a bit faster and better-looking than if it was powered by redstone though :v:
I kinda want to play around with it myself now..
When he called the phone I lost my mind. What the fuck is this witchcraft

Looking at the code it's like a low resolution remote desktop client that connects to a local server on your computer with some text IO in chat. Everything that's cool here happens outside of minecraft.

People still play Pong. There are a lot of people.
