This was inspired by Heavy Rain, the PS3 (movie) game thing that had a silly story line, but a fantastic scene that stood out for me.
A quick summary - Ethan (The Player Character) his son is kidnapped by a serial killer, and he must perform dangerous tasks to get clues to find his son.
One of the tasks, was he was forced to shoot another man dead for the next clue.
I'm curious.
Could you possibly kill someone to save someone you love? Like, hell, you see it in any action movie, but could you morally live with that? I know it wouldn't be exciting if John Mcclane was constantly in shock over murders, but I'm curious to see what you all think.
Nope, I don't see how one life is more valuable than another. I would just hope that family member could be saved without killing someone.
Is that person good or bad? Innocent? Really means a great deal.
Depends really. If it's "Shoot this terrorist because he's holding your friend at gunpoint" then obviously I would. If it's "Shoot this innocent stranger you've never met to save him" I really wouldn't know what to do.
Depends on who I judge to be the better person. If I judge them of equal quality, I probably would kill to save someone.
Quality of a person is judged by how good they are / how much they help others.
When I played Heavy Rain, I didn't shoot the guy. But I knew I'd be able to save Shaauuuun regardless, so real life is a whole different kettle of fish. It's been mentioned earlier, but it depends on who the person is. Given Ethan's choice, I don't think I'd have the balls to go through it, but if, like Ethan, I find myself being chased through his apartment while goes nuts with a shotgun, then I'd shoot to kill. I wouldn't feel good about it, but that's not really the point of it.
I would kill to save someone I love, if that person was threatening to them, otherwise, I don't know, but if I really had the choice between losing someone I love, or killing someone I don't know, I guess I'd value the life of the person I care for more than the other, even if I knew it was wrong, because every human lives are equally worth... But that just how I would do it.
I suppose if I absolutely had to I could kill to protect those I love, but I don't think I could murder someone.
I would never try and end up into a situation like that because if I killed a person to save my loved one then things won't exactly be the same between us huh... and if I don't save them then I'll be depressed and fucked up for the rest of my life.
I would kill someone to save my girlfriend, sisters, mom, any other family and close friends.
Yes, no questions asked.
I don't know what I would do. I will just hope I'm not put to the test.
In a heartbeat
In a heartbeat
That was more than a heartbeat.
In all seriousness, yes, I most likely would.
Yes, no questions asked.
Me too.
The question with this is why is such a choice needed? If the person in question is being attacked/threatened, that's one thing, to which I'd answer yes, but if the person is just a bystander then no.
It would make me feel as if I were on the same level as the serial murderer.
So no, I wouldn't be able to live with myself afterwards.
Edit:
If given the same circumstances as in Heavy Rain.
Yes absolutely. I wouldn't truly love them if I said no.
Yep. No matter how painful it would be to the stranger.
I'd kill for anything but I don't since I can just go down to a local supermarket and buy it.
If that person who I had to kill had cancer, Aids, asked me to kill him multiple times and did not have a family or friends that loves him - Yes.
Yes, no questions asked.
.
The people you love would not appreciate you taking other peoples' lives in order to keep them safe.
This really isn't a fair question. It depends on who the somebody else is, how relevant to me they are, medical conditions, life expectancy, loads of factors.
Yes. I have a higher preference for those I love than a complete stranger.

What you talkin bout willis
But, probably
Yeah, I would. Not even thinking of who the stranger is either.
Highly depends on who I'd be killing.
I would die to save someone I loved!
Or would I..? I guess I would have to make a judgement call. But maybe if I had a kid I would.
The life of a loved one is significantly more valuable that of a stranger but your fucked either way. If you kill, then you murdered someone and are responsible for their death. If you don't kill then your essentially responsible for the death of your loved one. Imo with the guilt of killing a stranger would be slightly less than the guilt of letting someone you love die.
At all costs.
