Here's a nice video to celebrate.
How many QPUs do you move if you build up speed for 20 years?
You know a game left a huge impact when it's still being talked about after 20 years. A lot of people especially the younger generation really don't know just how important SM64 was for the industry, it really left a lasting impact and standard that is still looked upon to this day.
I remember seeing Mario 64 for the first time at a friends house, and I had never had so much fun just moving around in a video game. I spent countless hours in the courtyard just triple jumping because holy fuck, that was awesome.
The credits theme is probably the most underrated Mario track. [editline]24th June 2016[/editline]
I remember losing my virginity to this game back in '03
I expect a remake with this art-style.
those bowser portraits scared the fuck out of me but i enjoyed everything else happy 20th sm64 :toot:
I found a cartridge of this game at Goodwill a while ago, I need to get back at playing it at some point.
We're farther away from Super Mario 64 DS's release than it was to the original's.
I reeeealy hope I still have that old VHS from a friend in Japan of the Mario64 release commercial. I remember reading all those articles back then before release when It was referred to as ULTRA64.
Yep, definitely no 3D games before 1996.
there really wasn't any true 3d games before the 90's though I mean, the first could be considered 3D Monster Maze. And doom and the like are 3d and that was in 1993. But they still used sprites, and were still limited 3d. I'm sure there are a few examples of full 3d before 1996, but I know it at LEAST wasn't big until then. So they aren't 100% wrong.

I still get tense whenever I play Big Boo's Haunt, all because of my first run-in with the Piano as a kid.
[t]http://199.101.98.242/media/images/138646-Virtua_Fighter_2_(E)_v1.000-5.jpg[/t] that IS pretty 3d so, fair enough yeah
Still in my top 10 favorite games. The mechanics still hold up quite well, something not many games of the past can do.
Mario 64 was the first video game I ever played and is still one of my all time favorites. It's what got me into video games and I will treasure it forever
What a legendary game that came out on my 3rd birthday. [img]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
I remember losing my virginity to this game back in '03
What did you do to that poor video game cartridge!?
I'm willing to bet even if this game was released today, it would still be a classic.
It's kinda crazy to think the same amount of time that separated the NES to the GameCube is the same amount that separated the N64 to the Wii U. Technology is a beautiful thing.
People say bowser was the bad guy of this game but I say the real enemy was the camera because you'll spend more time fighting that, guaranteed.
This is definitely one of those games where the music is fucking burned into my skull. It's weird that the game is just a year younger than I am and it makes me feel fucking old.

Suck it Mario 64 fans!! [sp]But I played Super Mario 64 first. Probably one of the first game I ever played, right next to Doom.[/sp]
Ah, so many 90+ star runs erased by my asshole little brother.
Ah, so many 90+ star runs erased by my asshole little brother.
my cartridge had a 100+ star save when I first got it used, never did know who the original owner was my six-seven year old self erased the save to start new anyway, and i did the same thing to my brother's friend on his pokemon red copy when said friend had a level 100 arcanine he cherished i was a little shitler

[editline]24th June 2016[/editline] Also 6DOF gameplay. [editline]24th June 2016[/editline] There's also the untextured, vast space of Frontier Elite 2, from '93.
I revisited this game last year (on an emulator, but with a USB N64 controller, and no save states). First time I've gotten all 120 stars. The hundred coins on Wet-Dry World eluded me last time I tried for it, and as a child I don't think I ever cracked 100 stars. Immensely satisfying to finally conquer the game.
