Lucie F. Roussel, the mayor of La Prairie, was near her cottage in the Eastern Townships Sunday when she stepped on a wasps’ nest, and was stung repeatedly. A friend said she suffered at least 15 stings. Ms. Roussel, 51, was transported from her cottage near Stratford to hospital in Thetford Mines, Que., where she was pronounced dead. Colleagues on city council in the community just west of Montreal and other friends said they were not aware she suffered from allergies. But a neighbour in Stratford said she was indeed allergic to venom from bee and wasp stings but did not have an epinephrine injector with her to counteract anaphylactic shock. Deaths from venomous insect stings are very rare in Canada. Forty people died from bee, wasp or hornet venom in Canada during a 12-year stretch ending in 2011, the most recent period for which national numbers are available from Statistics Canada. The annual death toll ranged from a high of seven in 2009 to a low of one death in each of 2006 and 2011. An average of 3.3 Canadians died from stings each year. By comparison, about 10 Canadians die from being struck by lightning each summer, according to Environment Canada.
What a shitty way to go.
Get the flame throwers. Burn it all. Burn. It. All.
Yet another reason why you could declare that range of space between Ontario and New Brunswick a dead zone.
welp good thing i have sparrows
Oh Christ, my phobia of stinging insects is really tingling.
Yet another reason why you could declare that range of space between Ontario and New Brunswick a dead zone.
An anti-quebec comment only 5 posts in, that might be a new record
Act of treason Unless the wasps only want Quebec, in that case let them have it, win win

Defenders my ass when they perceive anything within 100 yards as a threat and proceed to chase and swarm them for another 300 yards.
The wasps have begun their rebellion. Quick, stop them before they over throw the Canadian government entirely.
The Quebec independence movement dies as people rally under the federal government to defeat the wasp threat.
Well that's terrible.
Forgive my ignorance but I thought Rob Ford got stung to death for a bit
Yet another reason why you could declare that range of space between Ontario and New Brunswick a dead zone.
Being from southern Ontario myself, yes, it is a dead zone :v:

Wasps are seriously evil motherfuckers, every summer they always find a way into my room (legitimately crawling through tiny gaps in the siding n shit), then proceed to unprovokingly attack me while I'm sitting at my computer.
For a minute there I thought the title meant "The Mayor of Québec", not "A Mayor of Québec".
Never thought my city mayor's death would end up on Fp ..!
Never thought my city mayor's death would end up on Fp ..!
I didn't see you on the FP Radar. Get your ass in there: http://facepunch.club/ We live on the opposite sides of Montréal.
Well then. Did they follow her or did she just sit on the hive and wonder why she was getting stung repeatedly?
lies and slander bees are never the aggressors, only defenders.
Don't be a dumbass. They didn't say 'attack', they merely said 'venom', which includes defensive sting. Get your panties out of a knot and stop spazzing. Also, Africanized bees can be aggressive fucksticks from time to time.
actually this is a mind control test by HAARP
Fucking hate wasps. Wasps and hornets seem to find any reason at all to come after me any time I go outside. Just standing there attracts attention. Just the other day I was with a friend of mine working in his yard, he went into the shed and picked up a piece of wood that was in the way and there's two nests attached to it. My friend is apparently a BAMF and doesn't give a shit because he reacted in about half a second flat and just stomped both nests with his boot before any could sting him.
Once I got stuck in my pool, since the Wasp was always around the ladder to get out. I was like noped whenever it got close and went underwater. Must be awful to get stung by multiple wasps jesus.

She probably stepped on a hive, maybe in a tree stump, and they don't really like that. I knew a dude from work who was out hiking and he decided to jump off a tree stump for fun. He was stung and bitten over 30 times, had to go to the hospital.
Never thought my city mayor's death would end up on Fp ..!
Cheers bro, I am from La Prairie too. I don't think I need to point out how surprised I was to see my city beeing on Facepunch... especialy with this kind of news.

It was that day I learned I'm super un-allergic to wasps, because neither of the stings swelled at all, they just hurt for a few hours.
Wasps have become a real problem where I'm living. Everyday we spray them dead and every other day more come back. We even painted the ceiling of the porch blue, as it fools the wasps into thinking its the sky and they don't build hives there. Instead, our light fixture is now full of them. What the hell do wasps even do besides build paper death fortresses and sting the everloving shit out of people.
The wasps have begun their rebellion. Quick, stop them before they over throw the Canadian government entirely.
And they wont accept a sorry for an answer whenever you bump into them by accident.
