In the "interview", Game Informer asks him "Will we ever get to play Alan Wake 2?" and Sam Lake replies simply, "Yes." It's likely that we won't see an announcement for Alan Wake 2 until Quantum Break releases in 2016, but I can't wait to see what Remedy have in store for us.
Quantum break is also a game made by the team behind alan wake, which is a XB1 Exclusive coming out in spring. Quantum break is a Sci-Fi Time travel quantum mechanics story, compared to alan wake's Stephen king-homage horror story.
Well they released gameplay of an unfinished version of Alan Wake 2 a while so this doesn't surprise me at all.

Holy shit a 4 sentence article based on a "Yes". And it's not actual even news since Alan Wake 2 was in development, but was just temporarily put on halt. They even released that trailer few years ago where they showed that storage scene from Indiana Jones with Alan Wake written on the box.

That Alan wake box scene was them saying "Hey this game is currently in limbo and unless we get some help it's fucked" i guess msft is happy with quantum break before it even came out to green light it.

Trying to think of what else they could add, without bogging stuff down too much. Come to think of it, having a nonlinear style of exploration (a'la Silent Hill/Resident Evil) would probably be nice, having Alan gallivanting around a fully fleshed-out small town rather than the relative linearity of his first adventure.

Given the huge time gap I'd imagine most of the work for the new Alan Wake 2 will have to be from scratch (art assets especially).
The original prototype for Alan Wake was more open-world but they decided against it because of pacing issues, so I doubt they'd try again at it. Kind of hard to have a thriller atmosphere when you can just randomly fuck off and do side quests.

Probably New york city or wherever alan and his wife lives, or maybe a return to the city in alan wake 1. we had forest and spookyness, we had desert and twilight-zone stuff, now we gotta have somethin new (or maybe a fine blend).

By which I mean you found new items that would let you into new areas, like finding the different keys to unlock new doors or items to solve different puzzles. In Alan's case, maybe he'd get new bulbs/lenses for his flashlight to burn away different varieties of the "darkness", including an "Bulb of the Elder Gods" for when he has to fight a certain British rock band that's serving as the game's final boss. Silly I know, but could you imagine what that'd look like?
I started playing AW 2 or so years ago, I really need to man up and finish the damn game.
I started playing AW 2 or so years ago, I really need to man up and finish the damn game.
It's really good, but I never could get myself to finish American Nightmare for some reason.
American Nightmare is pretty bad, it gets extremely repetitive and boring after a while. And then it becomes even more repetitive. Alan Wake is a fantastic game though, I'm happy they'll make a (hopefully decent) sequel.
i fuckin loved alan wake, they both had a really cozy spookiness
At least we can look forward to more awesome Poets of the Fall musi
I really enjoyed the first Alan wake and it's expansion, Can't wait for this.
Am I the only one who thought Alan Wake had an awesome story and atmosphere but lackluster gameplay? The game is just begging for a sequel but I really hope they improve on the combat mechanics and linear level design.

The gameplay wasn't terrible but it got repetitive fairly quickly. For the most part I was able to deal with it as the game generally broke things up with more interesting locations and events, but some of the treks through the forest were seriously grating after a while.
Alan Wake is my favorite game! I'm so excited to hear this. Wish there was more to read about it though.
I hope both Alan Wake 2 and Quantum Break makes it way to the PC too eventually. Sam Lake's writing is awesome even that despite the repetitive gameplay Alan Wake had, it still compelled me to finish since the plot and characters really pulled me in. Been waiting for a sequel since the PC ports of the original game and the spinoff.
i really wanted to like the first alan wake but something about the 3rd person in that game was really offputtingg, i should try it again and see if maybe it was just how i was feeling at the time

The repititive gameplay is the most criticized aspect of the game.
wonder how long we'll have to wait until it comes to pc
wonder how long we'll have to wait until it comes to pc
probably a year or two like alan wake 1
"What is your favorite game?" "Ehh, let's say Half-life 2." Good man, good man.. :v:
Yay! Loved both installments so far
Let's hope they don't end up cutting the majority of the game due to time constraints and their ambitions clashing with the deadlines like they did with the first game
No you are not the only one. The repititive gameplay is the most criticized aspect of the game.
Yeah, it coulda done with a bunch more variety, though didn't American Nightmare help with some of the original's problems? Either way, I don't think either game had Darkness-possessed animals, which is a shame because seeing a possessed stag sing about a thing called love is something that everyone should experience once in their life.
Finally, i absolutely adored the first game. Can't wait for this one, i'll be first in line to buy it. I just knocked over everything screaming out "YEEESSS".
