Montreal coach Michel Therrien says no one deserves to be treated the way defenceman P.K. Subban was after his winning goal in Game 1 of the Canadiens' playoff series against Boston. Subban, who is black, was the target of racist comments on social media. "I'm shocked," Therrien told reporters Friday. "Honestly I'm shocked to hear those type of comments." The Bruins issued a statement earlier Friday denouncing those who racially abused Subban after his decisive goal in the double-overtime win on Thursday night. "The racist, classless views expressed by an ignorant group of individuals following Thursday's game via digital media are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization," team president Cam Neely said the statement. Subban's younger brother Malcolm, a goalie, was drafted by the Bruins. P.K. Subban was not made available by the Canadiens, who had a gym session instead of a practice. Montreal brought out four players, all of whom were asked about the racism. "I just think it's unacceptable," said defenceman Mike Weaver. "It's just classless." Forward David Desharnais echoed his coach. "Nobody deserves to be treated like that. It has nothing to do with sports or anything," he said.
Source: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/canadiens-p-k-subban-target-of-racist-tweets-1.2629997 So basically, Bruins fans are upset that the Habs beat them in double overtime and had to bring race into it. I'd be interested to hear what Jarome Iginla has to say about this because he's arguably one of the most successful black hockey players, and he plays for the Bruins if you don't know hockey but you're reading this.
how stupid is it to generalize a whole fanbase based on a few tweets
the epitome of a sensationalist headline
sounds like you're just trying to find something to be upset about to be honest [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] broken automerge
Isn't saying that an entire group is X because a few are X basically the same as racism?
My city in the news. Wooooo. Also don't base everyone's opinions off of a few racist people.
can i ask if you're a canadiens fan? that would be the ultimate thing
montreal canadiens fans are racist
Alright, can a mod make the title a little bit less sensationalist?
better off just closing the thread i don't really know what there is to discuss here [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] some people made angry tweets? the world keeps on spinnin
to be fair, the n word was trending in Boston after this happened
"Boston Bruins Fans" Not "All Boston Bruins Fans" Good going making the thread not about the racism and instead how the rest of the fans are great. Sports fans made racist tweets because they were butthurt, they're the equivalent of a 14 year old boy.
it's absolutely pathetic that people posting dumb shit on the internet makes national headlines these days
Sports fans made racist tweets because they were butthurt, they're the equivalent of a 14 year old boy.
a reminder that you are using twitter to judge intellect, einstein [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] can we focus on things that actually matter and not sports fans that get upset after a playoffs loss? i mean i could go back to twitter during any major sporting championship for any country and pull out racist tweets is this really a big deal

You might not be interested in the article but it doesn't mean that other people aren't, if you don't want to read about it go to a different fucking thread instead of whining.

A lot of posters in this thread seem to agree with him.
uh oh haha someone took it a little personal
uh oh haha someone took it a little personal
I just don't like to see a thread shit upon for no particular reason by people who don't like its content. So I'll say it again, some people might actually be interested, no reason to make post after post complaining about it. And clearly I'm not the one taking it personally because I'm not handing out dumb ratings to anybody or directing snide comments for seemingly no reason. [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline]
If you can't take critisism, get of the Internet. forgot i wasn't allowed to use the rating system for the specific reason it was implemented. you're wasting a whole lot of time that you're insisting should be dedicated to this important topic responding to me
My first post was trying to let people understand that the title wasn't sensationalist at all, because its not calling every fan a racist, because all of the posts were about how "Not all the fans are racist". [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline]
forgot i wasn't allowed to use the rating system for the specific reason it was implemented. you're wasting a whole lot of time that you're insisting should be dedicated to this important topic responding to me
uh oh haha someone took it a little personal
i waited a full hour on the dot to come back to this thread and it's funny that after your post, nobody replied to this topic. got a lot of riveting discussion
Go habs go
-snip, didn't read the article, sorry-
to be fair, the n word was trending in Boston after this happened
I think it's safe to say Boston is probably the most culturally racist place in America outside of the south.
