Dong Nguyen, an indie game developer based in Hanoi, Vietnam, tweeted, “I am sorry ‘Flappy Bird’ users, 22 hours from now, I will take ‘Flappy Bird’ down. I cannot take this anymore.” He then elaborated, “It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore.” After his tweets first went out, others asked if he was willing to sell it, but he said no. Nguyen also said that he’s still making games. TechCrunch interviewed Nguyen via email a week ago, after Flappy Bird took off (it’s still the number one free app in both Apple’s App Store and in Google Play). He said that he’s the only creator at his game studio .GEARS , and he seemed to be as surprised by Flappy Bird’s popularity as anyone else, telling us, “I have no resources to do anything else beside uploading the game.”
[editline]8th February 2014[/editline] https://twitter.com/dongatory/status/432227971173068800
What is flappy bird
Aww that sucks.
Can anybody explain what's the big deal?
What is flappy bird
A game that blew up last week. It's a clone of helicopter but has been accused of ripping SMB3 sprites Here's a dumb guy playing it
Expand Dong.
What is flappy bird
It's a very simple, repetitive game that infinitely stretches in order to entertain you. It's more of a competition type thing about how far you can make a go by tapping the screen. It's one of those games that's addictive and cute, and that people go on facebook and cream about how far they got.
Good fucking riddance. I knew it'd be doomed within two weeks.
This doesn't make any sense? If I recall correctly he pushed an update to Flappy Bird iOS just yesterday which fixed some FPS problems and added new bird colors.
This game blew up in like a second, jesus christ
So he just gave up all that potential ad revenue?

Probably made a buttload of money and now he's ducking out before lawsuits start showing up.
Good fucking riddance. I knew it'd be doomed within two weeks.
It made roughly $50,000 a day in ad revenue. He's only removing the game because he just likes to make games as a hobby. His words:
What is flappy bird
A very stupid and dumb fad amongst teens, similar to that of Snapchat and other small social networks that sprung up after Facebook, Twitter, and G+ became things.
This game blew up in like a second, jesus christ
It's weird because it came out over a year ago, although it pretty much uses the same formula as all other infinite runners on iOS so it gets eaten up anyway
I don't get it? Why is he doing this?
He can't stand the amount of money he's making? It's simple, dude. Give it to me!!!
A very stupid and dumb fad amongst teens, similar to that of Snapchat and other small social networks that sprung up after Facebook, Twitter, and G+ became things.
Don't be like that, it's a fun mindless time killer
Probably made a buttload of money and now he's ducking out before lawsuits start showing up.
There was an article saying he made $50,000 a day from ad revenue or something. Safe bet to say Nintendo was lawyer-ing up.
A very stupid and dumb fad amongst teens, similar to that of Snapchat and other small social networks that sprung up after Facebook, Twitter, and G+ became things.
God damn youngsters. When I was young...

It's strange that this entire fad nearly passed me by from start to finish. But, why is he taking it down so suddenly? Maybe he doesn't want to be in the public eye anymore? (I wouldn't blame him)
A very stupid and dumb fad amongst teens, similar to that of Snapchat and other small social networks that sprung up after Facebook, Twitter, and G+ became things.
not just among teens everyone at my college he's probably haunted by the massive amount of booping he is hearing he realizes what he has done and now must correct it
Don't be like that, it's a fun mindless time killer
So repeatedly tapping your screen is considered "fun"? Please. There's plenty of better ways to burn energy and have fun at the same time (AKA playing sports). (User was banned for this post ("threadshitting" - MaxOfS2D))
Christ, I feel bad for that guy
So repeatedly tapping your screen is considered "fun"? Please. There's plenty of better ways to burn energy and have fun at the same time (AKA playing sports).
You sound like a bitter old man.
A very stupid and dumb fad amongst teens, similar to that of Snapchat and other small social networks that sprung up after Facebook, Twitter, and G+ became things.
"I'm so much cooler than the rest of my generation! Fuck these kids and having fun." I've never played Flappy Bird (but I have played helicopter), but nearly everyone I know does. They find it fun and a good time waster. What's wrong with people doing things that make them happy as long is no one is hurt?
It's strange that this entire fad nearly passed me by from start to finish. But, why is he taking it down so suddenly? Maybe he doesn't want to be in the public eye anymore? (I wouldn't blame him)
From what I've seen is his design was successful by accident and he didn't have a desire for revenue.
They find it fun and a good time waster.
All it is is an ego competition. "Oh my god you're terrible since you got 20, I got 50, get better", etc etc
