It will house a giant compressor claimed to be the world’s biggest offshore machine. The Statoil equipment has been designed to pump some $30bn worth of gas from a depleted gas field. It’s a technological leap for Statoil to place the compressor on the sea bed instead of on a typical platform perched above the waves.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23043525 Video in source. This is the first underwater rig that I know off. Should be an interesting development.
stop scaring me damnit
so where do i get a seabed comparison bus like that for personal use
I love "Bus added for comparison", as though people would think "wow, there's even a BUS down there!"
I got worried it'd be another Alexander Kielland.
I wish Norway belonged to Sweden.
I'm glad they added the bus for comparison. I would never have known how yellow that thing was if it wasn't for the redness of the bus next to it.
I wish Norway belonged to Sweden.
norway isn't the enemy, denmark is dude [editline]8th August 2013[/editline]
God rest the brave volunteer who drove the bus down.
No more shall we bow down to people who hang their meat up on poles
You'll bow down to our meatpoles once again, just you wait [editline]8th August 2013[/editline] wait, that sounded weird
You'll bow down to our meatpoles once again, just you wait [editline]8th August 2013[/editline] wait, that sounded weird
Weird or... arousing? :q:
I wish Norway belonged to Sweden.
We're stealing their jobs so in a way it does belong to Sweden. *Ducks for incomming shitstorm* [editline]8th August 2013[/editline]
You'll bow down to our meatpoles once again, just you wait [editline]8th August 2013[/editline] wait, that sounded weird
They'll suck our dicks??
We're stealing their jobs so in a way it does belong to Sweden. *Ducks for incoming shitstorm*
If that's true, then we belong more to Poland. :v:
I don't know about you guys, but the wording of the title made it sound like this happened on accident. So how exactly does one pump gas from a depleted gas field? Isn't that like trying to pick apples from a bare apple tree?

Something to do with how many barrels of oil does it take us to get a 100 barrels of oil.
I wish Norway belonged to Sweden.
I like the way Norway was like "fuck no" to being under Swedish control after the Napoleon War. And then Sweden was like, "okay" (in the end) and Norway was like "yay, we got our own country now" And no matter how bad you might want us now, there's nothing you can do with it. Anyways, it's good to see that they continue to actually depleting the oilfields we have rather than expanding massively.

Depleted field recovery is set to become HUGE over the next few decades.
