Hello Facepunch. Today in my english class, we had a discussion about drinking, drugs, sex and other things. Facepunch is a huge site, and there's users from all over the world here. And I am interested in knowing when you are allowed to drink alcohol in your country, and how you feel about it. If you do it anyways, and what happens if you get caught.
I live in Denmark, and you are allowed to buy alcohol here when you are 16. If you are at a bar, restaurant or disco, you must be 18 to get served alcohol. There is no drinking age, so you can drink all you want if you can get someone to buy it for you. If you sell alcohol to a person below the age of 16 and get caught, you will get a fine.
How do I feel about this? Currently I'm fine about it, but they are considering raising the buying age to 18 years. I do belive that this is a VERY bad idea, as no one below 18 would care, and go buy it anyways. There are also many store owners who will just sell it to you without giving a single shit. Also, I think that keeping the drinking age low, will prevent more people for going over to drugs. Maybe I'm wrong, and if you think I am, please state it so we can get some good discussions out of it. (as Facepunch is very famous for.)
21...fucking bullshit...oh well...only a few more months for me anyways (November)

Really? I thought it was 18 in USA. Is it hard to get hold of it if you're underage, or is it easy enough where you live?
16 to drink, 18 to purchase. Atleast I think so.
18 In the UK, been drinking since 14 though.
No matter what the age is, someone somewhere will always buy it for you.
18, I think.
Buying age 18, drinking age 8.

That's weird.
You can get beer and wine when you are 16, the rest 18.
18. Not so bad.
18.
18
18, but it's kinda lenient enough so 17-18
I pondered why this was so funny over a pint of Guinness, then i realized It's because I am Irish.
18. Not so bad.
but you can drink at a resturant or a pub legally from 10+ i think
also isn't this a "post your" thread
I just moved to China from America. For the Chinese I believe it is 18 but if you are American and white they don't care what age you are.
America's age limit is awful. Of course everyone got alcohol every single night they wanted to when underage. But I think it's ridiculous how we can do everything else in the entire country at 18 except drink. We can sign our life away in war, buy cigarettes, go to strip clubs, go gambling but just not drink.
In my opinion, I feel like they will never change the law because of how much money it brings to the courts. My town had people constantly getting MIP's.
18 to buy, no one gives a fuck if you're not 18 and drinking alcohol though (if you have a parent or guardian in your presence). That's at least with my experiences with the numerous times I've had alcohol in public places.
Fuck I'm not even 18 yet and I've even had Absinthe. Just putting that out there.
18 in Australia.
Really? I thought it was 18 in USA. Is it hard to get hold of it if you're underage, or is it easy enough where you live?
Really easy because everyones got brothers and sisters. The white trash people would have their parents even do it.
18 to drink, for bars, clubs, lighter alcohol (under 3.5%) e.t.c, but 20 to buy from Systembolaget (state-owned monopoly on stronger alcoholic products).
18 to legally drink and buy it here as far as I know.
18, only three weeks to go till I can buy legally.
Cant believe the age is 21 in the US. Wtf happened there?
17 in Malta.
19 to buy, not sure what age before you can drink though. Canada
18 here in the UK but many places have a policy where if you do not look over the age or 21 (or sometimes 25!) then you must provide ID to prove you are 18 or above.
I'm happy though as it keep the idiot kids out of pubs and clubs, most of them anyway.
Germany: 16 for beer and wine; 18 for spirits
17 in Malta.
Same here in Australia, if you don't look over 25 you need to show ID.
18 for everything under 30% I believe.
No age in France or Italy BTW.
Due to the laws here, you can drink at any age buy only buy alcohol at 18. You need your parents permission and it has to be on your parents property.
In Australia it's 10+ if you are drinking either in private or at a resturaunt with parents/gaurdians, but 18 to buy, and is illegal to sell or supply to minors.
With cigarettes it's any age to smoke but 18 to buy, and again selling to minors could result in a large fine.
